Great work this afternoon at the @AmCollSurgeons Congress by @BMCSurgery SOAR fellow @sophiechung91 who presented findings on melanoma treatment delay due to the Covid pandemic. #ACSCC23 @KelseyRomatoski @GordanaRasic
In this important @acsJACS paper, @BMCSurgery SOAR fellows @KelseyRomatoski and @sophiechung91, et al. found that the pandemic has led to many patients harboring undiagnosed cancers & stress the importance of providers empowering patients to schedule cancer screenings. @The_BMC
A JACS study found that screening cancer incidence rates decreased during the COVID-19 pandemic, suggesting many "missed" cancer diagnoses. This will lead to upstaging at diagnosis, delayed treatment, and worse outcomes.
