Ran into the CEO of Sterling Bank @suleimana today and I can't believe CEO of a Nigerian bank would walk on the ground floor of his Head Office so casually, without a single person around him, carrying his backpack like just a junior accountant.
Indistinguishable from anyone else. Not even the front office staff looked at him twice as the #1 person in that highrise.
I was initially confused whether it was just his lookalike as I walked up to him, shook him and introduced myself.
I had heard so much about him (interviewed him virtually in 2018 when he was CFO too) but this is another level of humility for a top CEO.
No airs. Even Pure Water factory CEOs don't move like that.

SOKOTO CROWD REJECTS TINUBU’S HARDSHIP, EMBRACES ATIKU’S AFFORDABILITY AGENDA — ADC
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council has described the overwhelming reception accorded to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Sokoto on Wednesday as a powerful expression of public anger with the Tinubu administration and growing support for the ADC’s promise to make life affordable again.
The ADC campaign train was flagged off in Sokoto amid a mammoth crowd that lined the route from Sultan Muhammad III International Airport to the party’s state secretariat. The motorcade took three and a half hours to reach the rally venue as men and women, young and old, including mothers, gathered to welcome and accompany Atiku.
In several parts of the city, work came to a standstill. People left their offices and abandoned their daily activities to join the procession and attend the rally. This was not a crowd assembled by inducement. It was a spontaneous turnout by Nigerians who are struggling with the cost of food, transport, fuel and other basic necessities.
The attempts to frustrate the rally only deepened public resentment. The Sokoto State Government denied the ADC access to public facilities requested for the campaign flag-off, while obstacles were placed in the path of the party’s legitimate campaign activities. The federal government and its APC allies should understand that denying people a venue cannot suppress their political choices. In Sokoto, those efforts backfired: the people came out in even greater numbers and made their voices heard.
At the rally, Atiku reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the cost-of-living crisis and restoring hope to households and businesses. His plan includes a targeted, production-based subsidy for qualifying petroleum products refined in Nigeria. By tying support to domestic production, the policy will help bring down the cost of fuel and ease the pressure that high transport and energy costs place on food prices and family budgets.
The ADC’s message is clear: Nigerians deserve a government that makes life more affordable, supports local production and responds to the hardship people face every day.
When you have a message that connects with the people, you do not need to rent a crowd. The people show up on their own.
Signed,
Phrank Shaibu
Director of Strategic Communication
ADC Presidential Campaign Council.

It’s almost a week since the police took @IU_Wakilii into custody, and this is taking much longer than we expected.
We need to know what his offence is and why he is still being detained. His family and loved ones deserve answers.
Took us almost 2hrs to exit the Sokoto airport. Both sides of the Airport road into the city are blocked with crowd trying to have a glimpse of @atiku. Incredible, I am getting goosebumps all over. This reminds me of Late Buhari's campaign in 2003!

Two interesting things I discovered this week are:
1. That you can get genuine court affidavits online from the Nigerian Federal High Court. A genuine one, not the ones those roadside people give you.
The website has all sorts of affidavits, even ones I didn't know existed.
2. The National Population Commission has a working portal. You can register your newborn online and get a certified birth certificate that is accepted worldwide.
You can do all these things without any bureaucracy.

North Korea stole $6.3 billion from Binance by inviting one of its engineers to a job interview at a company that didn't exist.
And the guy didn't even have access to the money.
It took them five months and two separate hacks to pull this off.
Back in June, an engineer on Binance's wallet team went looking for an AI tool and installed a tampered Homebrew package. Binance caught it, swapped the laptop and reset the passwords. Problem solved, they figured. Except by then the attackers already knew who worked on that team and what each person did.
So they went recruiting.
In September a different Binance engineer got a message on a real job site from someone calling himself a project director. First round was a video call with a fake HR person, who even shared a social media account full of personal photos so the whole thing felt legit. Second round was with the "CEO," who told him to download a coding assignment onto his work computer. It was loaded with malware nobody had seen before, and Binance's security software missed it completely.
Then they waited. On October 20 they used his laptop plus one of Binance's own internal AI tools to get onto two wallet engineers' computers, and one of those engineers had permission to spin up new code on Binance's systems. Nine days later the attackers did exactly that. They ran a script and used an Ethereum feature called EIP-7702 to hand themselves control of a hot wallet, one of the wallets Binance keeps online to process withdrawals. Money started pouring out at 8:05pm UTC.
It took Binance four hours to stop it, which works out to more than $25 million a minute.
And it took that long because of a safety feature. Binance splits the signing power on those wallets into pieces held by different parties, so no single employee can ever drain one alone. That sounds great until something goes wrong, because it also meant nobody could hit the off switch on their own.
For context, the previous record was Bybit's $1.5 billion in February 2025, also North Korea. This one is four times bigger. Binance has already refilled about 98% of it out of its own pocket and says customers won't lose a cent.
Binance says it blocked 57 suspected North Korean attacks this year, and the one that got through started with a guy who just wanted a new job.

PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ADC WARNS SOKOTO STATE GOVERNMENT: YOU CANNOT INTIMIDATE US
- Says Governor will be held personally responsible for violence against opposition.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned the Sokoto State Government against continued interference with the party’s campaign activities in the state, declaring that the State Governor will be held personally responsible for any violence against the opposition in his state.
In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, the ADC condemned what it described as a growing spate of political obstruction in Sokoto State as the opposition party prepares to launch its campaign in the State, describing such actions as a deliberate attempt to intimidate the opposition and undermine the democratic rights of Nigerians.
“The Sokoto State Government must understand that governing a State does not confer ownership. Public office is a temporary mandate from the people, not a licence to suppress political competition. No governor has the power to decide which party can campaign, which candidate can speak, or which political choices the people of Sokoto are allowed to consider,” the party said.
The ADC described the alleged interference with its campaign activities as political sabotage and a direct assault on the constitutional rights of opposition parties to organise and mobilise support ahead of the elections.
“We call on the Sokoto State Government to immediately end all efforts to frustrate our lawful political activities and guarantee a level playing field for all political parties. We also remind security agencies and other public institutions that their responsibility is to the Constitution and the Nigerian people, not to the political interests of the party in power.”
The party warned that public officials who abuse their authority and obstruct lawful political activities must be prepared to face the consequences of their actions under the law, no matter how long it takes.
“Let there be no misunderstanding. The ADC will campaign in Sokoto State. We will not be intimidated, obstructed or pushed out of any part of Nigeria simply because those in power are afraid of political competition. Democratic participation is not a privilege to be granted by a governor. It is a right guaranteed by the Constitution.”
The ADC further stated that the growing intolerance of the ruling party towards opposition activities reflects its fear of facing the electorate in a free and fair contest.
“If the ruling party believes it has served the people well, it should have nothing to fear from an open contest. Intimidation cannot manufacture public support, and obstruction cannot take away the people’s right to choose their leaders. The people of Sokoto, like all Nigerians, deserve the opportunity to listen to competing ideas and make their own decisions.”
The party called on its members, supporters and the people of Sokoto State to remain peaceful and law-abiding, while insisting that it would continue to defend its right to campaign freely in every part of the country.
“The future of Sokoto belongs to the people of Sokoto, not to any governor or political party. No government has the right to veto democracy,” the statement concluded.

No rent dispute should ever end in blood, and I urge calm on all sides. Yet the viral scenes from Benin City speak to a pain that young renters across Nigeria know well: sudden increases, arbitrary charges, and nowhere fair to turn.
I will require states to adopt wage-reflective tenancy laws, regulate excessive upfront rent demands, set clear rules for rent increases and evictions, and create fast, accessible dispute resolution for landlords and tenants alike. A roof over one’s head should not be a battlefield. -AA
