Replying to @pauwendewit

Today, Starlink. Tomorrow, F-35.
European nations need to stop buying American and Chinese weapons and technology. It will be extremely painful, but necessary in the long run. Imagine a scenario in which Russia invades an EU country, and the Russian agent playing the role of American president decides to shut down fighter jets and weapons systems using a kill switch. According to SIPRI, 58% of major arms imported by European NATO countries in 2021–2025 came from the US. And we shouldn't forget about China. In Norway, Chinese-made vehicles used during a military exercise recorded soldiers' movements, sensitive locations and even access codes to military facilities. It's time to invest massively in Europe's own defence and technology industries.

Europe is developing its own Starlink alternative. Canada is developing its own Starlink alternative. What he did in Ukraine made one thing crystal clear: you cannot trust this man or his products.

I doubt that this is widely known by American voters.

Just a month ago, we voted on the Russia sanctions bill named for the late Senator Lindsey Graham. He spent more than a year fighting for it because he believed Russia should pay a real price for its brutal war on Ukraine. On that, he and I were in full agreement. I voted no. The bill handed Donald Trump the power to waive its sanctions whenever he chose, along with sweeping new tariff authority, and many of us warned that he would use that power for all the wrong reasons. Trump signed the bill on September 18. Last week he announced a deal to buy diesel from Russia. And on Friday, two days before the sanctions were set to take effect, he signed an order waiving broad sanctions and tariffs under the new law, claiming it serves our national interest. The White House has offered no explanation as to how. The head of Russia's sovereign wealth fund celebrated it as a historic moment. President Zelenskyy said it only helps Russia. Members of both parties, including Republicans who championed this bill, rightfully have condemned these actions. This is a disgrace. Trump turned Graham's bill, which was meant to choke off the money that funds Russia's war machine, into a lifeline for Putin, the exact opposite of what Graham fought for. When we win back the majority, we must force this administration to explain itself, and strip any president of the power to waive Russia sanctions without a vote of Congress. wsj.com/politics/policy/trum…
