There is now a clear understanding that China's growth continues to rely on net exports to an almost unprecedented extent for a large economy. The YTD 1.2 pp contribution from net exports is close to the 1.5 pp of the last 2 years, but is almost certainly an underestimate

The global economy remains resilient, but that resilience is becoming more fragile and more uneven. Growth is projected at 3.1% in 2026 and 3.4% in 2027, while inflation is expected to reach 4.7%, driven largely by higher energy and food prices. Higher rates or revised 3% inflation target…. Probably both
Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan says the Fed likely will need to raise rates by at least another 50 bps to ensure inflation doesn’t settle above the central bank’s 2% goal.
Logan said those additional increases, together with September’s, would merely reverse the three cuts the Fed made last year. She said the Fed needs to set interest rates at a modestly restrictive level, a threshold that remains uncertain and could require even more increases.
Logan drew a distinction on the run-up in bond yields. To the extent higher Treasury yields reflect expectations of a more aggressive Fed, those increases “don’t do our work for us,” she said.
But if the increase in yields is driven by rising term premiums, or the extra compensation investors demand to hold longer-term debt, the moves “can slow the economy, reducing the need to tighten monetary policy.” dallasfed.org/news/speeches/…

Public debt crises boil down to the difference between 'r' and 'g'. Here is where the main DMs stand
🇯🇵 The weak JPY solved it
🇺🇸 Cut spending and stop the war to lower 'r'
🇨🇦 Cut spending
🇬🇧 Bad but fiscal consolidation started
🇩🇪 Bad but low debt creates fiscal room
🇫🇷 Totally REKT 🤡🤡

Despite rising yields, Japan’s net interest payments as a share of GDP are projected to remain among the lowest in the OECD in 2027.

"It would necessarily be painful."
Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee says the central bank has reached the limit of any ability to wait out supply shocks, which means higher interest rates will have to slow sectors of the economy that may not be driving up prices.
He also sees evidence that the AI investment boom is not "staying in its lane," and cites conversations with businesses who see increasing labor-market pressures for AI-adjacent industries. wsj.com/livecoverage/stock-m…

My latest memo discusses recent attempts to rein in long-dated government bond yields and why the only sustainable solution is responding to the underlying factors pushing interest rates up, even if politically uncomfortable.

1 trillion in net bills is 3% of GDP -- not a small share of the overall US fiscal deficit
🛑 T-bills total $8tn or 24.3% of marketable debt, above the Treasury Borrowing Advisory Committee’s ~20% suggested long-run share.
Higher interest rates for longerer for now sub 8 floating/locked in is a win sub 5 (unlikely due to out of control government spending and policies) if you see it back up the truck and lock in - consumer and business spending is healthy, sadly government(s) ongoing selfish decisions mean supply shocks and bottlenecks

“Risk-free” can be painfully expensive. US 10y Treasuries have suffered their worst 5y nominal returns in over 120yrs, Goldman shows. Inflation made the losses even uglier. The twist: after this historic rout, yields are merely back near their long-run average.

I think alpha can not be proven with low frequency trading strategies. High frequency perhaps. As to tail risk funds it's even harder given sample size.
As to a general framework of finding alpha in managers I place low weight on performance and high weight on process
