14 Oct 2026- Lt Gen P. S. Bhagat Birth Anniversary
In the annals of military valour, few military leaders embody courage as profoundly as that of Lt Gen P. S. Bhagat.
As a young Second Lieutenant in World War II, he continued clearing minefields under intense enemy fire for 96 hours without a break. Despite his vehicle striking mines thrice and suffering a perforated eardrum, he pressed on. His Commanding Officer called it “the longest continued feat of sheer cold courage.”
That was the mettle of the legendary warrior —a soldier who placed duty above danger and mission above self.
Remembering a distinguished combatant whose courage remains an enduring inspiration for *Indian Army* & nation.
“I am a Bombay Sapper—not all can have the same luck.”

🇮🇳 *A Family of Service — A Legacy to be Proud of*
Few families embody India’s tradition of service with such remarkable diversity. The Sharma family produced soldiers of every hue: Major Somnath Sharma, PVC, India’s first Param Vir Chakra awardee; Gen Vishwa Nath Sharma, an Armoured Corps officer and Chief of the Army Staff; and Lt Gen Surinder Nath Sharma, the Paratrooper Sapper who rose to become Engineer-in-Chief. The family also included Army doctors, extending its service from the battlefield to healing.
Across generations, the uniform changed, but the calling remained the same—duty, courage, sacrifice and service to the nation.
A family to be proud of. A lineage that did not merely wear the uniform, but gave meaning to it—and a tradition of service that continues to inspire and endure across generations. 🇮🇳🫡

🇮🇳 From a Paratrooper Combat Engineer to Engineer-in-Chief — 103 Years of Legacy
On his 103rd birthday, we remember Lt Gen Surindra Nath Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, whose 42-year military career represents the evolution of the Indian Army's Corps of Engineers across an extraordinary period of history.
Commissioned in 1944, he served with the British Indian Army during the closing years of the Second World War before continuing his career in independent India.
As a combat engineer, his contribution extended well beyond conventional field engineering. His association with the Parachute Brigade and 411 Parachute Field Company brought together two demanding disciplines—the Sapper's ability to build and enable operations, and the paratrooper's ability to operate in difficult and inaccessible areas.
The construction of the Gaucher Airfield runway at Kathmandu, undertaken with Paratrooper Sappers of 411 Para Field Comapny and completed in only eight weeks, stands out as an illustration of this combination of engineering skill, improvisation and determination.
His career subsequently took him through increasingly senior appointments: Military Attaché at the High Commission of India in Australia, Chief Engineer Northern Zone and Chief Engineer Eastern Command. He was appointed Engineer-in-Chief of the Indian Army in 1979, reaching the highest professional appointment in the Corps of Engineers. His distinguished service was recognised with the AVSM and PVSM.
Yet the paratrooper never lost the engineer within him as he decided to culminate his illustrious career with a jump with Parachute Field Company at Agra rather than the formal functions at Delhi. He continued to jump till the age of 86 and is still as vibrant with life.
103 years of service, leadership and an enduring Sapper spirit.
Happy Birthday, Sir. 🫡🇮🇳
TWO FINALS. TWO SILVERS. ONE PROUD SAPPER.

The Mixed Team Silver is particularly historic—India’s first medal in the Recurve Mixed Team event at the Asian Games.

Two silvers. One Sapper. A moment of immense pride. 🇮🇳
