Finally, JAS fighters are being described as "Kharijites". First time I have heard the central Islamic State attack the JAS so vehemently. I don’t even recall the Islamic State ever claiming responsibility for clashes with the JAS but that's another topic.

JAS fighters claimed they attacked an ISWAP position on Lake Chad islands, resulting in ISWAP fighters fleeing. The incident happened last Saturday, 17 October, with the video clearly showing the JAS fighters running and shooting in one direction, supporting the narrator’s claim that “they (ISWAP fighters) are running away.” The JAS-ISWAP clash has become a pain in the neck for ISWAP, contributing to the exit of fighters from the group. JAS, on the other hand, seems to enjoy going after their counterparts, as if on a hunting spree.

And, first in a very long while video of an attack on a military base in Mairari, Borno was released earlier today. According to official data, 15 Nigerian soldiers and five civilian militia members were killed by Islamic State. A lot of vehicles were destroyed. #Nigeria
Safe to say that with the mid-October now passed, Islamic State is back to regular *stronger* raids after a few months of trouble caused by US focus on disrupting global network of the group inside Nigeria. As expected, mowing the lawn not resolving anything in the long run.

Sebastian Gorka, the US National Security Council’s Senior Director for Counterterrorism, revealed that 199 jihadists were killed in a joint US–Nigeria operation.🙆 The operation yielded such a massive cache of enemy communication equipment that additional aircraft had to be requested to transport it back to the US. The real prize? Intelligence that could expose how ISIS operatives communicate and coordinate their activities.

In 2014, we warned about Boko Haram. Much of what we feared came to pass. Today, in 2026, we warn again: 16 years into this war, we have barely begun addressing what sustains it. Khalil was a child in 2015. Today, he is training another generation. The warning signs are here again.
This is Khalil, far left in the background, a child in 2015. The son of a first-generation Boko Haram Kaid, Mohammed Zangina, he was trained to become a fighter and propagandist. Today, he is a senior member of Maktab al-Shar‘i, training another generation of children into terrorists. Full investigation: humanglemedia.com/nigeria-sa…

Djaffar Dicko saying: Anyone interfering in the war between JNIM and the state will be considered an enemy, and Manga Barry, allegedly killed by, army, is still alive. Dominance just 2 km beyond the cities belongs entirely to JNIM, leaving the public in a position of celebrating the mere arrival of supply convoys. Moreover, what is coming for everyone will be far worse than anything seen so far.
In his new speech, JNIM’s second in command in Burkina Faso, Djaffar Dicko (Uwais Al Ansari), describes the April 25 attack in Mali as a major turning point marking a new phase of the war in the Sahel. Simple hit and run raids are being abandoned for more intense and systematic attacks, with such offensives set to increase. Furthermore, civilians are being targeted in Burkina Faso.

A rare video published by IS-Sahel fighters through unofficial channels, threatening disbelievers in general and the Sahelian armies of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso in particular, warning that the war has only just started. The speaker also calls on JNIM fighters to repent, taunting them with a series of rhetorical questions: how many times have we defeated you, how many of you have we taken prisoner, and have you not learned your lesson yet? He also puns on al-Qaeda's name, calling it "the organisation of the sitters. He also sends his greetings to IS caliph Abu Hafs al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, telling him to rejoice, as he has in the Sahel province men "who do not sleep on injustice."

A notable aspect of the recent hostage swaps in Mali is Niger's indirect role. Some French outlets framed Inkinane's release as part of a swap for the two Russian Africa Corps soldiers. Tried my best to tie everything together in this week's Africa File. Loads going on.

First footage of the prisoner exchange between Niger and JNIM. Four JNIM militants were released in exchange for 11 Nigerien soldiers. This also confirms JNIM’s involvement in the negotiations.
Under Nigerien mediation, FLA commander Inkinane was released in exchange for at least 60 Malian, 12 Nigerien, and 7 Burkinabè soldiers. The Malian soldiers were released by the FLA, while the Nigerien and Burkinabè soldiers were most likely held by JNIM. It appears that negotiations were also conducted with JNIM.

Rare and important video, foreign militant in JNIM. Shaybani, a Sudanese militant who speaks Fulani and returned to his country after fighting alongside JNIM in Burkina Faso and Mali, thanks local leaders, militants, and villages in Burkina Faso and Mali by naming them one by one, and says that he is currently in Sudan.

Pro-sources have released a new statement regarding Hijra to Africa. Similarly, it notes that while it is currently difficult, the routes will eventually open up. These statements can provide insight into the demands coming from the base. The active conflict areas in Africa and the presence of strong branches (compared to other regions) definitely increase the militants' desire to travel to the continent.
#Nigeria ISWAP, through its affiliated media wing, announced in Hausa that following the US and Nigerian attacks, all routes are currently closed for those wishing to perform hijra (migrate) to Nigeria, and that they will be notified at the appropriate time.

Interesting: as much as can be gleaned, this was an open-ended Nigérien offer pitched to the US gov—through local embassy officials, not DC leaders—to invest in Niger’s petrol industry in any number of possible ways.
