reading about Chinese influence on Japanese ink paintings in feudal Japan
the artist Sesshū Tōyō worked in a Buddhist temple in Kyoto supported by Akishaga Shogunate,
but got funding by a wealthy warrior clan that did trade w/ the Ming Dynasty to travel in China for 3 years to explore Chinese art/Chan Buddhism,
which greatly influenced his style upon returning to Japan

For @pitchfork I reviewed ‘Alter Ego’, the solo debut LP from Blackpink’s Lisa. It’s a tedious, unimaginative album that hits on none of the highs of her group. This is K-pop when it’s too big to fail commercially, but also too big to succeed creatively.
