My name is Bob, and I am a mitotic spindle. I have never mis-segregated a chromosome. I speak for spindles everywhere.

A Saudi football club is offering Mbappe a $776 million salary for ONE year. If that one-year salary money was given to me, I would put it in a bank, collect 5% interest ($40 million per year)...and then use that to fund the research programs of 100 mitosis labs in full FOREVER

MCAK is a good little kinesin that helps me segregate chromosomes accurately. It seems almost unconscionable to want to intentionally inhibit this protein...yet, this paper makes a good argument for it!

Need a chromosome moved a mile away? I can do it. Just give me a thousand years or so.
Well, maybe its because I'm cautious, but I only move chromosomes at 0.000000111 mph during anaphase. Slow and steady wins the race.

Cells are very fast and crowded places. A molecule of glucose flies through a cell at 250 mph. A protein tumbles 60 million times per minute. These numbers seem made up. How did we figure this stuff out?

A conference all about me! ☺️ FWIW, I'm much better at executing mitosis than the poor spindle in this cartoon, which doesn't appear to have formed a single amphitelic attachment yet. Rookie.

Just be honest @StearnsLab, you're scolding this poor plant for not having centrosomes.

"Mitotic catastrophe" People use the term in so many different ways. The only consistent thing about the term "mitotic castastrophe" is that it hurts my feelings every time I see it.
A question for the hivemind. Which terms in biology (especially evolution, ecology, genetics) do you find slippery and confusing? Where you often feel that people use the same word but mean different things? E.g for me it’s fitness, epigenetics, niche, gene. Others?

I assume this is about mitosis in osteoprogenitor cells.

😨On behalf of all microscopic structures everywhere, please accept our condolences. And to the microscopes, please get well soon
In case you like horror and are the type that just cant stop watching: (No this is not a GIF from the internet, this is real footage from my lab yesterday and our most active 2P in a room holding two 2Ps). Courtesy of 1st responder @science_is_hard
