Attending pro sporting events is a luxury most people can't afford. The price to go to ONE regular season TB Lightning game is the same as paying for FOUR MONTHS of rec hockey for my son. That's an easy choice. People don't have unlimited funds. We cheer loudly from the couch
Professional sports leagues have raised ticket prices to the point that the average fan cannot afford to attend, especially as a family. They also compete with an in-home product that is vastly improved. Regionally, salaries aren’t as high in this market as others. Lots of reasons but the bottom line is people do have to choose between entertainment, gas and groceries and that’s just a fact. It’s not
a lack of passion. It’s practicality. I never felt comfortable telling someone else what to do with their money.
On this day in 1536, William Tyndale was executed for translating the Bible into English 🏴
Betrayed and arrested near Antwerp, he was condemned and burned at the stake. His last words were:
“Lord, open the King of England’s eyes.”
Tyndale gave his life to one great cause: putting the Word of God into the hands of ordinary Englishmen and women in their own tongue.
His translation laid the foundation for the English Bibles that followed, including the King James Version, which preserved a remarkable amount of his language.
Within only a few years of his death, Henry VIII authorised the English Bible to be read openly in every parish.
Tyndale’s prayer was answered.
He stands as one of the great martyrs of the English Reformation - a man who believed that Scripture belonged to the people, not to be hidden behind a clerical monopoly.
He famously declared that the ploughboy in the field should know more of Scripture than a priest who sought to keep it from him.
“The Word of God ought to be in the mother tongue… for the people to read and understand.” - William Tyndale 🏴

In 2014 Justin Verlander tossed a baseball to Kate Upton. In 2017 they were married. 9 years later, their eldest daughter brought her dad off of the pitcher's mound one last time. 20 years of baseball and a beautiful family. This is the quintessential American game.
The USA baby boom will start exactly 5 mins after she announces she's pregnant. She's THAT influential. It's a profoundly silly reason for young women to aspire to motherhood, but it'll happen. In the end, that's good. Odd as it is, Taylor becoming a mom will change families
Well stated by @FamStudies "Families need the masculine energy fathers bring: play that borders on risk, the expectation that kids can handle more than they think, and an authority figure to help them, especially boys, respect authority." ifstudies.org/blog/fathers-a…

Pew asked Americans what's essential to a fulfilling life:
Career: 71%
Friends: 61%
Kids: 26%
Marriage: 23%
Fifty years of data say that marriage is the biggest happiness differentiator ever measured. Americans have this backwards.
I hate this so much. Don't butcher classics, especially Christian allegory
Meryl Streep will officially voice Aslan in Greta Gerwig’s ‘NARNIA: THE MAGICIAN'S NEPHEW’.

Saying “I’m sorry” matters in marriage. But what if we got better at seeing the moments that lead to an apology? Listen instead of defending. Pause before reacting. Grab one of Ted’s books for more practical wisdom for a stronger marriage. bit.ly/3UTxANp
We didn't need a study for this. You're either committed 100% or you're not. I GIVE you my name. You GET my name. I couldn't imagine my wife-to-be NOT wanting to take my last name. Absolute deal breaker because it's a sign neither the man nor woman is committed even before "I do"
I've had this discussion a lot this year. Humans were made for rest. God demonstrated it. It's good to pause & reflect on Him. The world prefers we grind until we die but that doesn't mean the church should follow that thinking. We should lead & encourage the world to adopt rest
He thinks he sounds smart. Jesus preached "repent and believe" and then died on a cross to spare us from the punishment of sin. Yes, he physically healed people along the way, but that wasn't the point of his life. Not even close. Read your bible. Don't listen to clowns like this
Talarico: My faith is central in my public service, and if you go back and read the New Testament, even if you’re not a Christian, even if you’re not religious, go back and see what Jesus spends most of his time doing. It’s not preaching, it’s not teaching. It’s healing. It’s healing people.
And that is what we are called to do, whether you’re religious or not, is ensure—ensure that our neighbors have the care that they need. And that is, that is gonna be the end result of this plan and the other health care policies that we’re gonna fight for in Washington: saving the lives of our neighbors, bringing down these costs for all of us so that we can afford to get by in this economy, so we can afford to fulfill our God-given potential.
That is the end goal. That is our North Star.
The things (and a few people) of the world are dragging you down... says John. I agree. Abide in Christ. youtu.be/8viEjOtiq2Q?t=2417
This is exactly the kind of young woman I want my son to date and eventually marry. Not because she's doing this writing project, but because she seems to be invested in her relationship with the Lord. That will outlast any other attractive trait that would draw young men in.
The young woman we featured yesterday explains further her motivation for writing while answering questions and accusations from her critics, (after this blew up on X) some which she has found hurtful.
Ultimately she notes that she's doing it as a way to show her gratitude and love for her Lord and Savior, noting that the process so far has made her a "kinder" and "softer" person.
