FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – PRESS RELEASE State Election Board Member Carolyn Roddy Reaffirms Board Authorization for Executive Director James Mills’ Outreach to DOJ and DHS ATLANTA, GA — Georgia State Election Board Member Carolyn Roddy, sponsor of the resolution adopted by a majority of the Board on September 28, 2026, issued a memorandum today addressing criticism of Executive Director James Mills' October 1, 2026, correspondence with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In her memorandum, Roddy states: “I am compelled to clarify that the letters Mr. Mills submitted pursuant to the Resolution directive were processed and developed as directed and any criticism of them is unfounded.” Roddy explains that the adopted resolution did not require prior editorial approval from Board members. She states that Mills provided drafts of the letters more than four hours before mailing and received no edits or complaints. Addressing allegations that the letters exceeded the scope of the resolution, Roddy writes: “These letters were entirely consistent with the expectations of the Resolution.” Roddy further cites language authorizing the Executive Director: “to do any act or thing that may be necessary or, in his judgment, desirable, to carry out the foregoing Resolution.” In her memorandum, Roddy commends Mills for his promptness, thoroughness, and staff leadership.
