Some assume that economic growth is inherently at odds with saving the planet. Actually it's closer to the other way round. Economic growth often takes the form of new technology, and new technology usually does less damage to the environment.

So important!
My message to my fellow Americans and friends around the world following this week's attack on the Capitol.

As a response to Trump being banned, this is backward. If you strip Sec 230, social media platforms will ban MORE people, because the platforms could be sued for what's posted on them. Trump could sue for ban, but Twitter's defense wouldn't be 230. It would be owning Twitter.
Replying to @LindseyGrahamSC
I’m more determined than ever to strip Section 230 protections from Big Tech (Twitter) that let them be immune from lawsuits.

Important trend. Without immigration reform, we are tethered to executive orders on immigration. That won’t provide the kind of long-term assurances we need to attract inmigrants back to the US, and is exacerbating the costs of aging for the economy.
Sharp cuts to inflows of migrants, thanks in part to Donald Trump’s policies, and the pandemic are increasing America’s demographic stagnation econ.st/3pIsLl5

In 1988, I spent months in Xinjiang. The Uighurs showed me, a lone traveller, much kindness, but their rage against CCP rule was palpable. The hell they are now suffering is the darkest stain of this century. The world must stop the genocide. Inaction is complicity.

It is very hard to imagine what legal authority, however generously stretched, could possibly justify the sort of detentions described here. opb.org/news/article/federal…

Beijing is signaling nearly complete abandonment of the idea of a separate neoliberal haven. There's little that distinguishes HK from Shanghai, Beijing, or Shenzhen now, and this is likely the goal. Once business interests feel the effects of having legal and 11/n

The bad news: The number of *permanent job losers* continued to rise, increasing by 588,000 to 2.9 million in June The number of unemployed persons who were on temporary layoff decreased by 4.8 million in June to 10.6 million, following a decline of 2.7 million in May
Even if you account for misclassification, the unemployment rate is falling. If potentially misclassified workers were instead considered unemployed in June, the unemployment rate would have fallen from 16.4% in May to 12.3% in June (versus 13.3% and 11.1%, respectively).

1) remove 100% of special legal treatments for HK. 2) repeatedly send carriers through the straits 3) Trump visits Taiwan for a handshake 4) ban any CCP members or their family members from entering America 5) any such people already here go on a no-fly list; they’re stuck here.

Why is this still a question?
For those wondering about the evidence on whether or not masks work, just look at this chart. It's a randomized control trial for surgical masks. Without masks, 30-40% transmit coronavirus, just by BREATHING. With masks, 0% transmit it ZERO PERCENT nature.com/articles/s41591-0…

Thank you @FSUPresThrasher for your leadership on this issue.

Explicit from Fauci—public health experts had good reason to think masks were valuable, and to secure their use for medical staff thought it was a good idea to mislead the public on their value. Poor judgement and likely deadly. h/t @wagonomics, cc @johnjhorton

People in Leon county ( Tallahassee) are getting bent out of shape because of an indoor mask requirement passed by the county commission. I think many folks are missing the point. 1/3

Wearing a mask doesn't protect you (we don't have n95 masks) - it keeps you from accidentally spreading the virus. It's your gift to your friends and neighbors in Tallahassee. It helps slow the transmission. 2/3

The Leon county commission should be commended for looking out for those most vulnerable in our community. It's really not to much to ask. 3/3
