I’ve launched off the front of aircraft carriers hundreds of times, have a Master’s degree in aeronautical engineering, and am a test pilot and even I wouldn’t suggest to the Navy how to engineer specific systems on its ships. Donald Trump should stick to what he knows best — ballrooms, bankruptcy, and bullshit.
SCOOP: Trump has directed the Navy to tear out a complex system for launching fighter jets from its aircraft carriers and instead go back to using steam catapults, a move Navy officials have fought for years and will likely cost billions in extra dollars. U.S. officials say Trump signed a national security memorandum today directing the change, which would involve removing the electromagnetic catapult system used by the ships in the Gerald R. Ford class of carriers wsj.com/us-news/trump-orders… @MarcusReports

The full memo states that the Secretary of War shall provide the President with a PLAN to revert ONE future carrier, CVN-81, to steam catapults. It does not order equipment removed from any existing aircraft carriers. whitehouse.gov/presidential-a…

Today marks the somber anniversary of Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus. For 52 years, 1/3 of the island has remained occupied and its sovereignty and independence are still violated. We remain committed to a just and viable solution based on the UN Security Council resolutions.

WHERE DID THESE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE DIASAPEARā‰ļø A Century That Erased Ancient Homelands - This map highlights one of the most dramatic demographic transformations of the 20th Century. In 1900, millions of Greeks and Armenians lived across the Ottoman Empire, maintaining communities that had existed for centuries—many since antiquity. Greeks had thriving populations in Smyrna (Izmir), Constantinople (Istanbul), Pontus along the Black Sea, Cappadocia, Eastern Thrace, the Aegean coast, and Cyprus. These communities built churches, schools, businesses, and preserved the Greek language and Orthodox faith for generations. Armenians formed one of the oldest Christian civilizations in the world, with historic populations spread throughout Western Armenia (eastern Anatolia), Cilicia, and the Caucasus. Their monasteries, cities, and cultural heritage dated back over 2,000 years. The collapse of the Ottoman Empire brought immense tragedy. Between 1913 and 1923, the region witnessed the Greek Genocide, the Armenian Genocide, and the persecution of other Christian minorities. Hundreds of thousands were killed, while many more were deported or forced to flee their ancestral homes. The Burning of Smyrna in 1922 marked the end of one of the Eastern Mediterranean’s greatest Greek cities, and the 1923 Treaty of Lausanne formalized the compulsory population exchange between Greece and Turkey. Around 1.5 million Orthodox Christians left Asia Minor for Greece, while approximately 500,000 Muslims moved from Greece to Turkey. Constantinople’s Greek community remained exempt from the exchange, but its numbers declined sharply over the following decades due to discriminatory policies, including the 1942 Wealth Tax, the Istanbul Pogrom of 1955, and the 1964 expulsions of many Greek nationals. By the year 2000, once-vast Greek and Armenian populations across Asia Minor had largely disappeared, surviving mainly in Greece, Armenia, Cyprus, and diaspora communities around the world. This map is more than a demographic comparison—it is a reminder of how war, genocide, persecution, and forced migration reshaped the Eastern Mediterranean, ending millennia-old communities whose cultural legacy still lives on today. #archaeohistori

Past couple of days, one of EC's tweets that mentions Pink Floyd's album, _The Wall_, has popped into my mind, though I remember it only very vaguely. I don't think I found it when I searched for it, but this one (about the film) will do. xitter.cf/LuvEvelynClaire/status…

I actually feel it’s my responsibility to show young people The Wall because my mom did that for me. I must pass on the torch.
