Knowing where our food comes from also means understanding the water it depends on.
When water challenges affect harvests elsewhere, our region can feel the impact too. Planning for these risks is part of protecting our food supply.

On World Food Day, every meal is a reminder of what it takes to bring food to our tables.
Growing the food we rely on also depends on water, energy and healthy ecosystems, all closely connected through the WEFE Nexus.

What does water have to do with food, education, jobs and climate resilience??
Water connects to much more than the water sector. Managing it well can support stronger communities, better livelihoods and long-term resilience.

Did you know??
The water you use every day goes far beyond what comes out of your tap.
From the food you eat to the clothes you wear, your daily water footprint can reach around 1,400 litres per person across the region. That’s a lot of water we don’t always see.

Behind everyday products is a much bigger water story. 🚢💧
The way countries produce and trade goods can shift water availabilities across borders, making smarter resource planning an important part of building a more water-secure future.

Water cooperation is not only part of the conversation; it is at the heart of the work ahead of the UN Water Conference 2026.
We're super excited to be part of the UN Water Conference 2026 Youth Organizing Committees (YOC), contributing to the work on Water for Cooperation. The YOC brings together youth-led and youth-serving organisations from around the world to strengthen meaningful youth engagement towards and beyond the 2026 UN Water Conference.
Over the coming months, we’ll work with young leaders and organisations around the world to amplify youth recommendations, support capacity development and contribute to key youth-led outputs for the Conference.
Our participation is led by our Youth Ambassadors, who are bringing their knowledge and perspectives in water cooperation, diplomacy, and regional engagement from the Middle East to the discussions shaping the YOC's contributions to the Conference.
We are looking forward to working alongside young water leaders from different regions and contributing to a stronger youth voice in the global water agenda!

Bigger doesn’t always mean better when it comes to water projects. 💧
What matters most is choosing solutions that respond to real needs and can keep delivering value over time.

From regional dialogue to local field action in Diyala, Iraq 💧
Here in Al-Khalis District, we have launched the first activity of our pilot project on the water, energy, food and ecosystems (WEFE) nexus, putting an integrated approach into practice.
We started from the institution farmers rely on in the face of scarcity; Al-Hashemyat Water Users Association, in collaboration with the Directorate of Water Resources and the Directorate of Agriculture in Diyala.
And what happens in Diyala will not stay in Diyala. It will support work on this approach in Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and Türkiye, while regional knowledge and expertise continue to strengthen what we do on the ground.

What can one river tell us about an entire region?
The Orontes/Asi river connects Lebanon, Syria and Türkiye, showing how closely water and communities are linked across the Middle East. Understanding these connections is an important part of building stronger cooperation around water.

What costs more: investing in water security today, or paying for the consequences tomorrow?
Investing early helps protect communities, economies and the systems we all rely on, while creating value that goes far beyond the initial cost.
When it comes to water, acting now pays off later.

It is time to rethink where investment goes.

Some of the region’s most important rivers cross borders, including the Euphrates, Tigris and Al-Asi. Their transboundary nature makes cooperation between riparian countries essential to the sustainable use of these rivers and the water they provide.

Two countries, one shared challenge. 💧
From shrinking salt lakes and declining groundwater to wetlands drying up, water scarcity is affecting communities across borders, reminding us that many of these challenges are more connected than they seem.

Did you know?? Around 60% of the world’s freshwater crosses borders! 🌍
Working together on water isn't a choice. It's a necessity.

Some voices carry years of experience, leadership and commitment to cooperation. 💧
H.E. Mr. Mohammedamin Faris Amin, proudly our MC Chair, reflects on the importance of the Blue Peace ME initiative and why cooperation around transboundary water resources matters for the region.
Because when water connects countries, dialogue and collaboration matter more than ever.

Water security? It’s not just about the water we see. 💧
It’s about the rivers, lakes, wetlands and aquifers that keep life going. 🌿
Protect them, and we protect our future too. 💙

Water is at the heart of food production in Türkiye.
By using water more efficiently and adopting smarter farming practices, we can support farmers, protect our water resources, and help secure food for future generations. 🌱
