THIS IS HILARIOUS: CNN’s Erin Burnett Just Produced the Receipts—Video Shows Jack Smith at the Caitlin Clark Game, Undercutting Sen. Eric Schmitt’s Perjury Accusation Erin Burnett just brought the evidence. Earlier Tuesday, Sen. Eric Schmitt accused former special counsel Jack Smith of lying under oath about attending an Atlanta Hawks game in 2024. Holding up a poster with text messages, Schmitt declared, “I think you’ve already perjured yourself.” But there was one problem: Smith said he was attending a University of Maryland game featuring Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Schmitt had apparently confused the Hawks with the Hawkeyes. Then Burnett showed the footage. During OutFront, CNN aired video from the February 3, 2024 Iowa-Maryland game—and there was Jack Smith, sitting in the stands. “And there he is. There is Jack Smith. So I guess we know what game the text was about,” Burnett said. She pointed out that Schmitt appeared to believe he had delivered a dramatic “gotcha” moment. “Schmitt thought he had Jack Smith. But he didn’t, because Smith was not at the Hawks game.” When reporters later asked Schmitt about the mix-up, he didn’t offer an apology. Instead, he joked that Smith must simply be a Caitlin Clark fan. But Burnett emphasized that the accusation had been much more serious than a joke. “The implications from it were nasty and involved lying under oath. So it would seem that it’s more than a joke.” Think about what happened here. A senator publicly accused someone of perjury, apparently got the game wrong, and CNN subsequently aired footage showing Smith at the Iowa-Maryland game. That’s quite a set of receipts.
