The reports suggesting an attempt to exercise control over Friday sermons in Kashmir's mosques are a matter of grave concern and call for serious reflection.
Have we reached a point where even the words spoken from the pulpit of a mosque are to be subjected to political scrutiny? Will @BJP4India now determine the subjects our Imams may address, the concerns they may raise and the issues they must remain silent about?
A mosque is not an instrument of political messaging, nor can its pulpit become a mouthpiece for any government or political organisation.
As a Muslim who believes in moderation, tolerance and mutual respect, I find the prospect of such intrusion into our religious space profoundly disturbing. This is not about promoting extremism or resisting accountability. It is about safeguarding the fundamental right of religious communities to practise and articulate their faith without political dictates.
Our Imams and religious scholars carry a responsibility towards their faith and society. Their sermons must be shaped by religious teachings, moral values and the needs of the community, not by instructions originating from political corridors.
There must be a clear distinction between the authority of the State and the sanctity of religious institutions. Crossing that boundary would set a deeply worrying precedent.

The ecological decline of Anchar Lake is a sobering reminder that environmental degradation is not merely a loss of natural heritage; it is a failure of stewardship with lasting consequences for future generations.
I express my sincere gratitude to House Committee Chairman on Environment Jinab M. Y. Tarigami Sahab and all fellow members, including our senior leader @MubarakGul_ sahab & other Members
(Hon’ble MLA’s )for their collective commitment to this vital cause besides senior officials of district Srinagar.
The task before us demands more than inspections, it calls for scientific restoration, institutional accountability and sustained action.
Protecting Kashmir’s lakes is a collective responsibility and a moral obligation to those who will inherit this land.
Together we can and together we will.

The sanctity of the pulpit lies in its independence. In Kashmir, where faith has historically been central to our social and moral life, religious guidance must remain the responsibility of qualified scholars beyond the domain of Waqf, guided by conscience and religious principles not by the considerations of stipend (Hadee)
The Waqf Board’s role is administration and not dictating sermons. Institutional authority must know its limits, especially when it comes to matters of faith.

The final authority on Friday khutbas remains the Quran and Hadith, not any Waqf board or committee of stipend-dependent ulemas. The pulpit is a sacred trust, not a platform for pre-set themes on social issues. Government salaries cannot buy control over what is preached. No board can seize the mimbar.
@drdarakhshan
“Ulemas and Khateebs will decide the topics for Friday khutbas through a board, not the Waqf chairperson. They will address social evils and issues affecting society,” says Waqf Board Chairperson @drdarakhshan

I am extremely grateful to Hon’ble Speaker Jinab Abdul Rahim Rather Sahab for giving me time amidst yesterday’s busy sitting to move my resolution seeking the de-notification of Phaak and Rural Block Harwan from the Srinagar Master Plan, thereby limiting #LCMA’s enforcement jurisdiction in rural areas which is causing undue harassment to residents.
The resolution is now the property of the August House and will be discussed thoroughly in the next sitting or whenever Resolution’s are taken up for debate.
I remain committed to ensuring that LCMA does not harass the residents of rural Hazratbal & equally support their @jklcma initiative’s to preserve the lake & restore it to its pristine glory. I have also taken up this matter with Hon’ble CM Jenab @OmarAbdullah Sahab who has assured me of his intervention to resolve the issue.

Raised a series of pressing public concerns during Zero Hour today — decongestion of Srinagar, easing the traffic mess, removal of bottlenecks at Umar Haer & Koolipora Khanyar & other important bottle necks in the city, strengthening sanitation through adequate manpower and double shifts, ending LCMA-related harassment of rural residents in Hazratbal and tackling the growing dog menace.
These are everyday issues affecting our people. Sought concrete, coordinated and time-bound action from the government.
