Been here long enough to know that a lot of what drove @BoredApeYC in 2021 came from the culture and value created by the community members purely taking initiative.
I remember being @Swickie’s +1 at the first community-led BAYC irl meetup hosted by @beijingdou , where @NFTBA_ was born over a smoke sesh with @TheeHustleHouse and @seanana, and later met Mr. Community Utility himself @17ikoola on the courts.
It was also there Josh Ong and I decided to pitch the founders on supporting a yacht party we wanted to throw for Apes at NFT NYC, which we then watched that Yuga support turn that into the first ApeFest.
I watched Swickie work that ApeFest line for 8 hours verifying wallet addresses on a spreadsheet while handing out the very first and very last wristbands to a line that stretched for BLOCKS just to make sure no apes were left behind.
And before that, I remember @mfigge making custom BAYC sneaker concepts for holders before eventually blessing the space with @10KTFshop, still imo one of the most community-centric and creative projects with some of the most inspiring story telling that brought this space together like no other.
All of this helped establish the club DNA and most of this was before MAYC, Otherside, Kodas, ApeCoin, HVY MTL, etc.
Those came later that were rewards for a community that had helped create this cultural phenomenon.
But somewhere along the way, it feels like we lost the plot of where value came from got conflated with rewards given.
Floor price and volume measure market activity and demand. Airdrops are rewards and incentives. But that demand existed because the culture was strong, people wanted in, and Apes were out here building shit because it brought us together as a community which then created value in the form of opportunities not unlike stonkbrokers.
These are GOOD things because it’s creating opportunities regardless and it happened because WE said so. No official collab. No Yuga shill. No permission needed.
We believed back then that evolution of BAYC should be to take this club beyond Web3 and by proxy this space. But that isn’t happening if we think only Yuga led initiatives, proper merch drop mechanics, more airdrops, web3 rewards, or party access are what made this the best club in the world. And vice versa for Yuga themselves to assume they can come close to replicating the culture without truly understanding what it means to be an ape.
Don’t lose the plot fam. Stay bored 🍌

With this change, Verge Slim on Windows, macOS, and Linux, along with our Android and Meta VR apps, now all share the same 18-word wallet standard for full cross-platform compatibility. Next up is our iOS app, which will follow this same new standard. We anticipate it will be ready in the next 2 weeks. github.com/vergecurrency/Ver…

Here’s my take on @LucaNetz meeting since I hadn’t shared it yet.
Luca brought NFT founders together and gave real advice on how to lead and manage collections. From my perspective it was a strong initiative because the conversation touched on things a lot of founders need right now: monetization, marketing, community, expectations and leadership.
For the people asking what happened with @illaDaProducer here’s the context.
Someone brought up the tweet one of Yuga’s employees made about two other individuals and my take was simple: don’t throw stones at someone else’s house when your own house is made of glass.
I had a heated moment with illa because everyone knows Yuga made mistakes in the past. A lot of people still feel like they got rugged especially on the gaming side of the ecosystem.
That hurt pushed a lot of people out of NFTs and some of them never wanted to come back.
But at the end of the day I see Yuga as the Harvey Dent of The Dark Knight.
We all know Harvey wasn’t perfect. We all know how broken he became. But Batman still took the heat because Gotham needed a symbol. Gotham needed someone people could believe in and Batman knew he wasn’t the right person for that role.
In a weird way the NFT space needs its Harvey Dent.
It needs a symbol people can believe in again.
Yuga made mistakes but they still have one of the biggest stages in Web3. Whether people like it or not they have the platform, resources and responsibility to help rebuild trust.
And if they choose to lead the right way they can help bring belief back to NFTs.
This space doesn’t need more division.
It needs accountability, leadership, and a reason to believe again.
there are only 46 gold apes
and at this point, it’s very difficult to find an off-market seller willing trade
the lowest listed gold ape is 199 eth ($460k) which is effectively double before @GrailsOTC started 3 weeks ago
bids are rising
but sellers are not budging
digital assets like these have rotated into significantly more diamondhanded positions
for gold apes, not only are sellers not budging
they pretty much don’t exist
we are still working through trippies, 4Ts, blacksuits, admirals coats, kings robes, pimp coats, etc
but overall our goal has been to help facilitate even more off-market inventory rotating into strong collectors
subjective trait-based requests are being facilitated
completionists are trading for full sets
minimalists are trading for clean apes
aesthetics are in control
this is important work because it applies momentum to a quality that is hard to quantify:
collector strength
paired with our progress on IRL events, I firmly believe the sustained pressure we are applying will yield the results everyone is after - a strong Club
on a related note, while the bayc website is deliberately minimal and opaque to the public, we are experimenting with a deeper experience in the members section
there are also other strategies, which i will go over this week, that I believe to be under engaged, but full of potential for the
bored ape yacht club

Five Years of Bored Ape Yacht Club
A note to The Best Club on the Internet,
Five years is a long time on the internet. It’s long enough to understand what makes something different, and to recognize when it becomes part of people’s lives in a real way.
The Bored Ape Yacht Club has always been more than something you scroll past. It’s something people step into, build with, and carry with them. That’s what makes this a Club.
Like @mfigge said recently, the Club should live in your world, not just your timeline. That's where we're headed.
Here's what that looks like right now.
We recently rolled out the new bayc.com - a fresh look, member profiles and directory, an updated store.bayc.com, and more coming soon. It’s a step toward making the Club feel more tangible, more connected, and easier to immerse in.
IRL is the Alpha
Over the last few weeks, Apes have been mobilizing across the globe through regional meetups, bringing local chapters together in ways that actually matter.
We spent 4/20 weekend with Snoop and Dr. Bombay, giving a group of Apes a member-only moment you can’t replicate online.
These moments pull people closer together, create and strengthen real bonds, and push the energy of the Club forward.
We say Bored Ape, You say Yacht Club
We’ve also been thinking about what it actually means to be a Yacht Club - not just the name, but the feeling behind it. That’s starting to take shape. From here on out, you’ll see it show up more clearly in our apparel, our collaborations, and an aesthetic that finally does the Yacht Club name justice.
Five years in, and we’re not slowing down.
There’s more to share, but for now… thanks for being an Ape. Thanks for being in the Club.

Some news to share:
After serving as CEO the past couple years, I’m moving into the role of Chairman of the Board, and @mfigge will become Yuga’s next CEO.
Figge is the absolute best person for the job. There’s no one I trust more to lead Yuga through this next chapter.
He’s relentless about product quality, he thinks longterm, and he knows how to take a vision and make it real. His work on Otherside the past year is proof of that, and you haven’t seen the half of it.
And I’ve loved watching Figge get his hands dirty in the world of BAYC over the last few weeks. The club is better for it.
Creative direction, writing, and figuring out insane ideas is still where I do my best work. And with Figge taking over the CEO role, I get to go back to it. I can’t wait for what Yuga builds next.
