The Caesar salad was actually invented in Tijuana, Mexico, on July 4, 1924. When a holiday rush wiped out a restaurant's kitchen, chef Caesar Cardini improvised with whatever ingredients were left on hand, creating a now iconic dish that had nothing to do with Julius Caesar.
