Transactions had hit the limit, which caused the price per transaction to go up, which caused people to change their behavior and get the same effect out of fewer transactions, which caused the transaction rate to drop. Apparently these 'market' things actually work!

Lots of big stuff coming for LN that I can’t really share yet, but man there is a lot building up. More conferences and hackathons than I can track. Swaps on mainnet, and more swap types coming. More development and focus on stable core tech. The distance from a year ago is huge.

Channels are opened with funds on only one side in LN 1.0 and senders don't know which side. That creates a math problem for sends. Each attempt at a hop defaults to 50% odds of failing, multiplying across hops. Balance signals, dual funder, splicing, swaps are coming to fix this

According to these figures, to sustain the price of bcash Bitmain has had to purchase more than 10% of every bcash coin that has ever even moved, which is 8.4 million according to forks.network/dashboard/db/i… Good news also in these numbers is they hold less than 1% of the BTC supply.

According to the Bitmain pre-IPO investor deck, they sold most of their #Bitcoin for #Bcash. At $900/BCH, they've bled half a billion in the last 3 months. If Bitcoin Core devs didn't disclose the Bcash vulnerability, it could've wiped a billion dollars off their balance sheets.

Thread of pple on twitter who understand statistics (and the notion of average) much much better than the @nytimes : life expectancy = 40 means a lot of infant mortality, not that people didn't live long. Please, please, please avoid the NY Times. Please.

Simply, if 40% died in childbirth (or very young, which is about historical number), 50% died at 60, and 10% died at 92, the "average" life expectation would be ~40. Childhood mortalily hugely skews the average.

The arrival of Bitcoin was like a meteor crashing into our planet filled with an alien material that we can never replicate. The impact was so great that it threw highly visible centralized detritus up into the air. The cruft will fall back down, and the alien material will stay.
