My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.
After sleeping on it, here's my honest Street Fighter movie take:
If you don't see it today or tomorrow with a bunch of SF fans, save your money and don't bother.
The good:
- Cody Rhodes as Guile/Roman Reigns as Akuma
- Ken's backstory and overall goofiness was an interesting take on the character
- cool to see FGC people make cameos
- a lot of little nods were kinda funny or entertaining like the actual psycho power gauge and subtly explaining Ryu's orange gi in ST
- using animation to fill in origin stories
The bad:
- All the characters except Ryu/Ken/Dan/Chun feel like afterthoughts. I get that it's an ensemble cast, but by the way they are promoting it, you really would think all the big stars were in it more.
- Ryu's stupid f'n accent, wtf were they even thinking??
- all of Blanka's dialogue, especially with Ryu
The ugly:
- $40+ Guile popcorn head is pretty steep IMO
- For how many times I've seen the same seeded twitter post about Chun Li's thighs, there was a grand total of like 3 sexy seconds with her
- Halfway through the movie, the entire story breaks down because they basically abandon the entire tournament as a plot device and go in a different direction
- I'd already seen all the scenes with Guile except for one (though that one was pretty good tbh)
- Lots of weird foot fetish stuff, and not in the Juri kind of way
- Knowing in retrospect that the budget was $80m+ and that the opening weekend ticket sales are $29-35m explains the massive media blitz via WWE and FGC channels (they know they have a huge mountain to climb)
Overall, the first half was good enough to get through the second half and IMO the only way to watch it is this weekend with a bunch of Street Fighter fans. I'm glad I did it this way because it seemed like generally everybody had a good time.
I would 1000000% not subject someone who is not REALLY REALLY into SF to this movie like a gf/bf/child. If you think that this movie is going to somehow help the way that your fandom for the franchise is viewed by others who don't currently share it, you are sorely mistaken.
My initial impression was that it was a grift, but tbh, as someone who doesn't watch TV and lives and dies behind the ad-blocker, I decided to just go for it because if you reach me through WWE and twitter, congrats to the marketing team.
So it was, in fact, a massive grift, but it was still fun to experience it with the homies. And ultimately, that's how SF is best enjoyed, isn't it?

Know it's been discussed plenty of times but I genuinely never expected to be emotional over a Looney Tunes movie but Coyote vs ACME was able to do that for Wile E Coyote and the Road Runner

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
