For once, the two Strict Critics of StrictlyCritical.Substack.co… agree (mostly) about Teresa Margolles's moving @MoMAPS1 show of "political" (ie, world-relevant) art — although Christian notes that it's missing her soap bubbles made from corpse-water.
A detail from a bronze statue of David by Giovanni di Stefano now in “Siena: The Art of Bronze, 1450-1500,” at The Frick Collection. In my @nytimesarts review, I tried to give the backstory for why bronzes gave us a rear-view on their subjects. nytimes.com/.../design/frick…

My good luck to have written today's @nytimesarts appreciation of Yayoi Kusama, whose death at 97 was announced last night. Still can't decide if her dotty "infection" of our entire commercial culture was a great art work. nytimes.com/.../yayoi-kusama…
Tonight at 7, hear why beauty is, a) the most important concept in art and morals, or b) a useless, incoherent distraction. Not in Tampa? Get a paid subscription to the Strictly Critical substack (you know you've wanted one) and watch the livestream. strictlycritical.substack.co…

So pleased to see this @observer review of my @Spritmuseum show in Stockholm, about #Warhol's Business Art, with work from @TheWarholMuseum , @mschf , @MasonRothschild and others. Smartest thing written so far.

So impressed by @CJSprigman at this morning’s Second Circuit appeal, defending @MasonRothschild and his right to make art about Hermes’s Birkins — as in this video of my @Spritmuseum #Warhol show.
In yesterday's Arts & Leisure section in @nytimesarts , I published a studio visit with Charles Atlas, the oldest emerging artist in Manhattan. Congrats to him on the @icaboston retrospective he's about to open. nytimes.com/2024/10/01/arts/…

Another huge 293 lots « day auction » @ChristiesInc with a quality superior to any fairs I have seen in last years from solid collections like Laure Lee Brown & Steve Wilson, Esposito, de la Cruz at prices that r often a fraction of primary prices. This is the challenge to market

The froth of art as investment is certainly gone but wealthy r just wealthier & they couldn’t care less about geopolitics. But the wide incoherence btwn primary & secondary prices cannot be ignored anymore despite decades of rosy reporting & lack of ethics + opacity keep ppl away
