Republican election officials in North Carolina denied NC A&T ; the largest HBCU in the country; an on-campus early-voting site. Their game plan was simple: make it harder to vote, and maybe fewer people show up. They miscalculated. Students marched 45 minutes each way to cast their ballots. Not a few of them. Not the ones with cars. Students. On foot. Both directions. To do the thing Republicans keep trying to make inconvenient. And here's the part the GOP never seems to learn: You cannot suppress your way out of a motivated electorate. Every single time the Republican Party erects a barrier to voting, history delivers the same verdict: - Poll taxes and literacy tests** were supposed to shrink the Black vote. Instead they forged a generation of organizers who tore them down. - Jim Crow registration games** were supposed to keep turnout low. Instead they produced the Civil Rights Movement. - Voter ID laws, purged rolls, closed precincts, slashed early-voting windows; every one of them was sold as "common sense." Every one of them disproportionately lands on Black, brown, young, and poor voters. And every single time, the people they're trying to silence show up anyway; angrier, more organized, and more determined than before. This is the pattern. The GOP builds a wall. The voters climb it. The GOP builds a taller wall. The voters bring ladders and each other. NC A&T students just reminded the country how this works. Deny them a polling place on campus? Fine. They'll walk. And they'll bring friends. **Put up barriers to voting and don't be surprised when people get angry, get organized, and bring even MORE voters to the polls.** The suppression tactics never end. And neither does the backlash.
