It doesn't matter to most people, but I'm annoyed at how all the locations and buildings look like some variation of a modern Starbucks. It feels so corporate and spotless, not a speck of wear or age or history anywhere, which makes Wuhu such an uninteresting setting.

I also don't think the game needs to make references to real world politics or events. But the era this game is set in was really important and interesting for Chinese-Americans. I think it's a shame if Violet didn't reflect that or incorporate it into her lore.

They literally included a Chinatown district in the game's new map, which would not be as large and developed without all the historical changes that were happening. So yeah, it's kinda relevant to the game's worldbuilding.

Either way, Violet's explicitly a Chinese immigrant, and the CEA's repealing reshaped her community and these ethnic enclaves, allowing them to become multi-generational cultural hubs. I don't think it's unrealistic to want that to be seen in a 1940s-themed world.

For sure. Game's in beta and they've revamped characters before, I'm still here for Violet.

They did add a Chinatown to the map, I think some voice lines where she references it would really help IMO.

I鈥檓 really happy with her Chinese roots, but feel like a lot of lost potential to historically represent my community during this time. Her going to therapy and smoking weed and having disappointed parents cuz she went to art school is fun but also really anachronistic.

I stick by my girl but am personally disappointed in how little her character has to do with a really important and interesting era for Chinese-Americans. The Chinese Exclusion Act was repealed in 1943 and is probably why Violet can live in the US (she mentions a green card).

guy will refuse to touch how art history and politics and theory intersect (which is why his videos are so substanceless), but will go on twitter fights about how radical honesty is an constructive ideology that justifies him being a disreputable dick online.

if you're gonna be an "i'm just being honest" asshole, at least make interesting art. solar sands is successful, he puts a lot of work into his videos, but they are fundamentally, astonishingly boring. maybe that's why his hobby is making fun of beginner artists on twitter.

and every video i've seen of his is such bare bones high school essay "describe what you're seeing" analysis. "this picture is uncanny because it's liminal. the definition of liminal is an in-between state. it's liminal because you expect it to be in one state, but it isn't."

this guy makes art history/media analysis video essays btw.
I'm sorry but when artists go like "my art is better than this AI slop" and then post art that's not like super impressive it's just really embarrassing.

Deadlock is currently missing the funny gib explosions that TF2 has. This could fix that.

I agree with you, but she's not wearing a qipao, she's wearing a modified tang suit jacket/tangzhuang. A qipao's a one-piece dress with a (usually) asymmetrical opening.
