Second, Bitcoin priced in gold (below) is showing a lot of strength as well as flows return to the BTC ecosystem. Bitcoin is only 30% correlated to the S&P 500 and uncorrelated to Treasuries. That makes it a good diversifier now that a new 4-year cycle is potentially underway. 🧵(2/2)
Who was more bullish on crypto in 2009 than Hal Finney? Well, he took AI safety seriously enough to debate Eliezer Yudkowsky about it. See e.g. lesswrong.com/posts/mMBTPTjR… where he expressed skepticism against CEV, which was Eliezer's main plan for ensuring AI safety at the time.
(Or if you want to go back even further, Satoshi cited my 1998 b-money in the Bitcoin whitepaper, but by 2009 I had already switched my focus to AI safety/x-risk, which is the main reason I didn't pay more attention when he emailed me.)

We can play this game all day. People bullish on crypto in 2009 look smart. And Bernie Sanders is a doomer, and we all know he’s wrong about everything!

My dad gave me a MILLION Confederate dollar bill when I was a kid.
When I asked him what I could do with it, he said, "Nothing."
That's what's coming for the US dollar.
First, a few retailers will say, "we accept Bitcoin” and then a few will say, "we ONLY accept Bitcoin."
The moment that happens, people will panic and run to the bank. They’ll pull their dollars out and convert to Bitcoin.
Please own some Bitcoin, so you don’t panic when people don’t accept your dollars.
This is why I'm telling everyone the same three things right now:
1. Buy enough Bitcoin to keep your family alive for 6 months.
2. If you run a company, hold enough Bitcoin to pay your employees for 4 weeks.
3. If you manage a government treasury, put some percentage in Bitcoin.

It's time to think about the 2028 halving and what it could mean for BTC price.
As of now, only 1.6 years until the next halving. After prior halvings:
- 2012: ~100x rally over 12 months
- 2016: ~30x rally over 18 months
- 2020: ~8x rally over 18 months
The halving has been the quadrennial heartbeat of Bitcoin's marketing and monetization.
But in 2024, something different happened. The pattern of halving --> bull market was already established enough that people front-ran the halving. For the first time, we had a new all-time-high before the halving.
- 2024: ~4x in 18 months BEFORE halving, ~2x rally over 18 months after halving
So what will happen this cycle? Nobody really knows, but I think the precedent has been established to front-run the halving. That's the game theory now.
If the same pattern plays out this cycle, the next 1.6 years could be the most explosive time for BTC. Repeating the prior cycle would look like:
- 4x over 1.6 years: $58k (recent bottom) --> $232k at April 2028 halving
- 2x over 18 months after halving: $232k --> $464k in 2H 2029
BTC could certainly deliver diminishing returns vs the prior cycle (as it has tended to do), but at some point that trend breaks to the upside.
The key point for now is that people are likely to front-run the halving. And that could make the next 1.6 years the most exciting part of this Bitcoin cycle.
Too many of my friends still think I’m crazy when I promote Bitcoin.
I’m ramping up my orange pilling again at the start of this bull run though 💪🤓
His friends thought he was crazy.
In his 20s, American HODL sold his car, spent two years riding a 50cc moped around Las Vegas and put nearly everything into Bitcoin.
Years later, one friend admitted: “You were years ahead of the curve.”

This morning, we launched a new educational campaign aimed at helping Americans understand bitcoin and its place in the world today.
Our campaign will stretch over 12 weeks and includes an educational website, gettingbitcoin.org, a series of 6 essays by leading thinkers in bitcoin, 6 full-page print ads, and 24 quarter-page print ads in the Wall Street Journal.
Each of the six essays will appear as sponsored content in the Wall Street Journal, beginning with today’s by @LynAldenContact .
The public discourse about bitcoin should really be better. This is our attempt to do something about it.

Bitcoin continues to challenge the neckline of a large head-and-shoulders top, while working off its overbought condition with little or no price damage. This is very much how early bull markets have generally behaved.
