Midwives work in teams as the main healthcare provider for women & babies during:
🤰🏻 pregnancy
🤱🏻 childbirth
👩👧👦 the postnatal period
On #DayOfTheMidwife, we thank ALL midwives for the vital lifesaving care they provide to mums & babies around the world – each step of the way.

"Women receive dedicated support from the same midwifery team throughout their pregnancy in line with the continuity of carer model."
Good to see in new "Quality statement for maternity and neonatal services" - presented in @SeneddWales today.
Because #ContinuityMatters
More worrying developments within maternity services. Will we ever get to a stage where pregnant women/people and their families have confidence that open disclosure and transparency exists and is truely embraced in all 19 maternity units. @NTMA_IE @AIMSIreland @El_Collective

No
Replying to @cremieuxrecueil
There are certainly other factors at play, but heavy use of c-sections allows for a larger brain, as brain size has historically been limited by birth canal diameter

All women deserve high quality midwifery care; for many that means #relationalcare: it's great to read about work to provide #ContinuityofCarer in Ireland. Here it focuses on women who are perhaps in most need of it now. Thanks for flagging @BirthAlliance

Well done @CoombeHospital and midwife Emer Shine, if we identify those vulnerable it doesn't take a lot to provide to provide a safer care pathway. #continuityofcarER
