📢Big update on the EU #Deforestation Law: trilogues were concluded yesterday!
✅ The good: the EPP dropped all their harmful amendments, preserving the law’s effectiveness.
😠 The bad: the one-year proposed delay was adopted, unnecessarily slowing down implementation.
⏭️Next up: the Council & European Parliament will officially seal the deal in the coming weeks.

🚨EU countries reject Parliament's attempt to weaken EU Deforestation Regulation!
Today, Member States rejected the European Parliament’s attempt to weaken anti-deforestation regulations, opting instead to support the original Commission proposal to delay implementation by one year without altering the text. Most countries opposed the amendments, including the “no risk” category introduced by the EPP.
National representatives stressed that reopening the text would risk legal uncertainty and delays. This rejection represents a major blow for the European People’s Party, which proposed amendments to weaken the regulation and secured its approval in the EU Parliament last week.

🚨 Tomorrow’s EU Parliament vote on the #Deforestation Regulation could set back forest protections by years!
🌲The Commission's proposal to delay the #EUDR threatens a landmark law aimed at stopping deforestation linked to EU supply chains. Worse, last-minute amendments proposed by the EPP could create massive loopholes, exempting entire countries from due diligence and opening the door to business-as-usual forest destruction.
🛑We urge MEPs to reject this proposal and stand by commitments to protect our forests and fight the climate crisis. Read our full joint statement here: together4forests.eu/resource…

💸Investing in nature pays off 💸
Nature restoration is one of our best investments for a resilient future.
At COP16, leaders worldwide are calling for increased funding to restore nature, and the EU has a key role to play!
A dedicated EU Nature Restoration Fund could return up to €38 for every €1 invested, protecting both biodiversity and our economy.

⚠️ The next EU Budget must deliver, especially for biodiversity!
The EU’s financial framework for the coming years is under discussion, and nature risks being overlooked. We call on the EU to properly fund nature because our future depends on it.
In 2021, EU leaders committed to restoring nature through the Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. This June, they adopted the Nature Restoration Law. Now is the time to increase financing for biodiversity in the EU!
Our proposals:
🌱 Set up a dedicated biodiversity conservation and restoration fund in the next Multiannual Financial Framework.
🌱 Strengthen biodiversity mainstreaming through all EU funding programmes.
🌱 Prevent biodiversity-damaging investments financed through EU funds.
Tackling the biodiversity crisis hinges on the EU’s ability to allocate financial resources for protecting and restoring nature.
