In this study led by Lucia Baldauf we established a robust method to reconstitute vesicles with an actin cortex and – by pairing with theory by @sciFelixFrey and @TimonIdema - discovered that branched actin preferentially assembles at membrane necks! doi.org/10.1016/j.bpj.2023.0…

Current biomaterials are mainly made from animal-derived proteins. What if we could instead make them in microbial cell factories?
Together with the team of @jgdaran1, we will harness our expertise in synthetic biology and materials science to generate yeast cell factories for producing biomaterials for soft tissue repair and cell-based meat production.
