Margot took me on and rescued me as a PhD student. Her kindness & generosity marked her as unique, let alone her unmatched influence as a scholar. She was a force of nature- I will never forget the power of her voice. She could command any room, and deserved to. I will miss her.
We mourn Professor Margot Brazier, who died peacefully on 4 March. Margot's work inspired generations of healthcare lawyers and ethicists, and informed health policy for decades. Margot was exceptionally kind, clever, funny and wise. We will miss her so much @law_uom

This is a wild overstatement of what was actually achieved. But “AI successfully remixed a small number of mostly already-observed, largely synonymous mutations and in a few rare cases managed to make it nonlethal” doesn’t sell hype as well

If I’m being honest, the way I feel about the ‘90s is comparable to the way certain Baby Boomers feel about the ‘60s. So, I feel super fortunate that I was allowed to help put this together.

I did some questionable shit on my 30th birthday too
Coming in 2026, as we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we’re finally planning to add a comments section and reader scores to all of our album reviews. That’s over 30,000 pieces of music criticism on which you’ll be able to leave your own Pitchfork review and score for the very first time. We’re going to beta test with 500 readers now, and we’ll be back with more information soon. We can’t wait for your takes to be on our website.
Yet another weaselly decision, avoiding the point and passing the buck.
Today the #Michigan Court of Appeals issued a decision in our habeas corpus lawsuit on behalf of seven chimpanzees confined in the DeYoung Family Zoo. A statement on the decision by NhRP Executive Director @chrandberry. nonhumanrights.org/blog/stat…

Welcome to the age of generative genome design!
In 1977, Sanger et al. sequenced the first genome—of phage ΦX174.
Today, led by @samuelhking, we report the first AI-generated genomes. Using ΦX174 as a template, we made novel, high-fitness phages with genome language models. 🧵

we're seeing more and more reports of regular people getting AI-induced psychosis but nobody is talking about how the engineers and CEOs behind it have had the same thing for years now
