EASTECO in collaboration with icipe/Bioinnovate Africa Programme and SEI launched yesterday launched the 3rd Status Bioeconomy report 2026 in Eastern Africa during the high-level bioeconomy workshop in Nairobi, Kenya at Windsor Hotel.
The report should be viewed not only as an assessment of progress but also as a call to action. It outlines practical priorities for strengthening policy implementation, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, mobilising investment, promoting regional collaboration and building the institutional capacities needed to realise the full potential of the bioeconomy.

Kenya is taking a major step towards building a competitive #bioeconomy with the launch of its National Bioeconomy Strategy 2026โ2036 at the Africa Bioeconomy Workshop.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. @MusaliaMudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign & Diaspora Affairs, highlighted #Kenyaโs rich biodiversity, productive agricultural sector, growing #research community, youthful population and dynamic innovation ecosystem as key foundations for growth.
The strategy seeks to move Kenya beyond exporting primary biological resources towards creating greater value through #Science, technology and innovationโdriving higher-value products, enterprises, industries, jobs and sustainable economic opportunities.

It is a whole-of-government economic and industrial strategy and the cornerstone that integrates well with our #BETA development model. It is estimated to provide a strategic response to the intersecting risks of trade exposure, economic volatility, high unemployment and climate change. That is the economic proposition at the heart of our economic development model". We are committed to provide leadership and assistance to other African countries towards developing thier #Bioeconomy strategy. Kenya has officially launched its National Bioeconomy Strategy 2026โ2036 at the Africa Bioeconomy Workshop.
Launched by Hon. Dr Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, the strategy provides a framework to harness biological resources, science and innovation for sustainable growth, jobs, investment and climate action.
