A quick Larry Fitzgerald story. When John McCain passed away in 2018 Larry was asked to speak at the service. McCain and Fitzgerald developed a unique friendship that dated back to 2006. They had a tremendous amount of respect for one another. Larry wanted that moment to be perfect. He considered it a privilege to have the opportunity to honor a man he held in the highest regard. So Fitz used the famous work ethic he was known for as a player on that speech. He used the same attention to detail that got him to Canton today. Back in 2018 it was an early morning at the Cardinals practice facility and I was doing hits for NFL Network. I was the only person in the media workroom. Larry walked into the room in a suit, he said hello, and he went into a back room. He didn’t come back out for hours. Later that day I asked around about what Larry was doing. I was told he was practicing. He was wearing the suit he was going to wear at the service. He was standing at a podium in that room to simulate the setting for his speech to honor his friend. He cared so much that he wouldn’t quit until he felt it was perfect. And when he took that stage he was. Just as he was today with his speech in Canton. Some people are just wired a certain way. With a work ethic and drive to be great in everything they do. It’s why Larry Fitzgerald is a Hall of Fame football player and Hall of Fame person.
