Saw "The Substance" this weekend and it is a SFX and Foley extravaganza! Great work by the sound crew on that one.
Nice to see that Dev Patel's Monkey Man is getting a good response from tonight's SXSW screening. Quite the journey for me on this film. It's some of the best work I've done but also learned I had kidney cancer while in the middle of a mix review with Dev.
After we finished, the film was bought by Universal and another round of conforms and mixing was completed in LA by the fine folks at Formosa. I look forward to seeing the new version from what we worked on. Its a good film, I really liked it.
A rare snow day in Vancouver today! Most are working from home but one of our sound supervisors @jfonnyadt unfortunately had to drive his wife to work this morning and snapped this pic. ❄️❄️❄️
Jun9th I found out that I had a tumour on my right kidney. Not knowing if it was the big C or not for almost 5 months on Oct 27th I had a successful surgery and they were able to save the kidney! Today I was nominated for my first Emmy! Emmy noms are better than kidney tumours.
The new "save selected timeline section" update in Pro Tools 2023.9 is in my opinion one of the greatest additions to Pro Tools ever.
Almost every film I've worked on recently has had the same workflow. Mix the film, mix the M&E, deliver in reels and longplay, goes through QC fixes, and then a month or two later we come back to drop in late arriving VFX updates.
My ears rang and ached after seeing Oppenheimer last night. I wonder if the technology existed to get a projector bright enough to actually cause damage to your retinas would people think that is "Oscar-worthy" cinematography? I think not. (ps - MI7 sounded better.)
Although it certainly wasn't received very well at the box office, but I'm still super proud of the work we did on Knights of the Zodiac and it's a cool poster! 😀

Release day for "Knights of the Zodiac" (Sony and Toei Animation)! This is the film where we made the decision to upgrade our main stage to theatrical ATMOS early last year.
Premix and final ended up being 43 days. For anyone that is interested, here's a link to the SFX mix session screenshot. Definitely the largest and busiest session I've had to wrangle, but it's so wide for organizational purposes. drive.google.com/file/d/1Xg1…
