I’m going home tomorrow from a week in Belgium and the Netherlands with my family (And Doggies).
Is always nice to return - a week away is enough for me. BUT
Boy, will I miss seeing the roads full of cyclists.
The cycle paths are amazing and run along side every road. It’s not quite the same in Belgium, but it still shows up the UK.
I have found it amusing how I’ve needed to be looking all around like an owl at every junction - partly due to the unfamiliarity of driving on the opposite side of the road - but mostly as cyclists are EVERYWHERE and I’m very happy to give them priority at all times.
And I’ve not cycled once (despite wanting too deeply).
We’ve driven around - even into the centre of Amsterdam and Bruges and the roads have been terrific.
All ages.
Mostly functional, old, sit-up-and-beg step through frames.
No helmets.
No Lycra (other than the few ‘proper’ riders.

Something not mentioned here: The pavements aren’t designed for 2+Tons of rubber and metal, so degrades badly.
It’s just bloody selfish!
