Most Web3 games don't have a retention problem, growth problem, economy problem, or community problem.
They have a player ecosystem design problem.
These aren't separate challenges. They're interconnected systems that work together to drive long-term participation, monetization, & sustainable growth.
Competitive systems are a great example:
• They create recurring content for LiveOps
• They give players goals beyond farming
• They increase retention & long-term participation
• They create opportunities for creators, guilds, & partnerships
• They enable sponsorships & cross-community events
• They drive demand for game assets and strengthen the economy
One well-designed system can impact player lifecycle, LiveOps, growth, and economic sustainability simultaneously.
The strongest projects don't optimize individual features. They build player ecosystems where the systems reinforce each other.
I finally updated my consulting deck to better explain the framework I use when evaluating and designing player ecosystems 👇

Would love feedback from founders, operators, and growth teams😁

Didn't mean official announcements, just some back & forth/brainstorming with the rest of the contributors
Yes, there are some legal hoops and it's still early, but if you don't at least get the contributors involved in the strategic thinking then I'm not sure what we doing here
Replying to @BiffChain @AxieInfinity
Sorry bro. We were not going to announce anything yet, but our hand was forced. For now lets just say there has to be a way to kick start governance. We are just a bridge to help the community. We don't want to be the soon tm guys.
Redesign or get rid of evolved parts. The original vision was to introduce new strategy, not more powerful cards
Buy in tourneys with global ranking system and rank gated sponsored events
Profit sharing Axie rental marketplace
Capped the supply and stop distributions of SLP
I approached them months ago to redesign how classic works and got zero interest 🥲
The answer seems obvious, turn it into a P2P wagering platform with persistent rankings and sponsored tournaments.
Add in event based delegation and prize sharing and we are cooking with gas!

My final words on Axie Classic.
It’s over, gang.
Axie Classic: Competitive Season 16 Update
One more battle awaits ⚔️
Axie Classic: Competitive Season 16 kicks off on Wednesday, August 12, 2026.
• Season Leaderboard (3 weeks): August 12 – September 2, 2026
• Mini Tournaments (4 weeks): August 13 – September 10, 2026
Congratulations to Chan, our Season 15 Champion! Winning the season earns a Champions Invitational slot, but as a former Champion, Chan is already qualified, and so is our S15 Arena Leaderboard #1, JL. The slot passes down to Eshaz, the S15 Championship runner-up.
Two more players from Season 16 will earn their spot in the Champions Invitational and a shot at the 5,000 bAXS prize pool.
Looking Beyond Season 16
We also want to share an important update about Classic's future.
After Season 16 and its Mini Tournaments wrap, we'll be pausing regular competitive seasons and active development for Axie Classic. Classic quests will also be removed from the Bounty Board when everything wraps on September 10.
But this isn't the end of Classic's story.
We're working toward handing Classic's continued development and direction over to the community. The details aren't settled yet, so Season 16 will be the final competitive season under the current structure. When the time comes, we'll help get the handover off the ground, and from there, where Classic goes next is yours to shape.
Classic has been a big part of Axie's history, and we're grateful to everyone who returned, competed, hosted tournaments, and kept the game and its community alive.
One final leaderboard. One final round of Mini Tournaments. And two final spots in the Champions Invitational.
Let's make Season 16 one to remember. ⚔️
This MMORPG is only 5MB.
ARRR.fun is a procedurally generated MMORPG built primarily with @grok and Fable. Not a single image, 3D model, or sound asset was used.
It features a massive world with diverse landscapes and vegetation, thousands of unique items, cosmetics, animals, monsters, and ships, with full multiplayer support for up to 250 players.
Players can chat, trade, play poker and blackjack, visit shops and taverns, hunt, forage, fight monsters, and participate in world events. They can also sail across the world, upgrade their ships, install cannons, and recruit crewmates.
We launched six days ago, and thousands of players have already played.
It is incredible what AI can now build in days that would previously have been impossible for most developers.
One of the biggest flaws in Web3 gaming isn't the games.
It's the systems.
Most projects are designed to optimize either:
• Financial systems (tokenomics, speculation, yield)
OR
• Gameplay systems (fun, progression, competition)
Very few are designed to optimize the interaction between these two fundamentally different audiences.
That's why so many token economies collapse.
That's why so many great games never build sustainable player bases.
The goal shouldn't be better tokenomics or better gameplay in isolation.
The goal is to build systems that move players toward the overlap, where gameplay reinforces ownership, ownership reinforces engagement, and engagement strengthens the economy without alienating traditional gamers.
The future of Web3 gaming won't be pushed forward by better games.
It will be driven by better systems built specifically for the unique dynamics of Web3 gaming.
🤖 Made with AI
I generally agree, but I don't think "build better games" is nearly enough to fix Web3 gaming.
The bigger issue is incentive design.
We're building in an investor-centric industry where everyone expects a financial return. That doesn't magically disappear because the product is a game.
Investors don't want to grind games. Gamers don't want to invest money. Yet we keep forcing both audiences into the same system and wondering why adoption stalls.
Until we separate the investment layer from the player layer with distinct products, incentives, and user journeys, we'll keep ending up with games with no product fit.
These are fundamentally different audiences. Treating them as one has been and continues to be one of Web3 gaming's biggest mistakes.
Crypto gaming didn’t fail because gaming itself doesn’t work.
It failed because it was treated like “work2earn”.
Games are economies.
If there’s no reason for players to put money back into the ecosystem and everyone is only extracting value, the entire system eventually collapses.
The games that survive will be the ones that create actual demand, real player retention and economies people WANT to participate in, not just cash out from.
AI won't just change gaming
It will turn every company into a game designer
Vibe coding will allow businesses to rapidly build progression systems, rewards, quests, achievements, communities, and personalized onboarding experiences around their products.
The future of onboarding won't look like tutorials or PDFs. It'll look more like games.
As this happens, many of the skills developed in Web3 gaming become incredibly valuable:
• Retention design • LiveOps • Community systems • Behavioral loops • Digital economies • Social coordination
I've spent 8 years learning these systems. Starting to think they're going to be more transferable than ever in the near future 😎

I really don’t get it. These guys have thousands in DAU and with the advancement in AI being so rapid how is a game like this shutting down?
Real talk we have in @misfitgalaxymmo a DAU of 15 in our playtesting it laughable right now. But we are self funding and bootstrapped and sustainable and we are not even in alpha yet. We have zero revenue and zero runway, just self funded.
These guys have revenue and a strong playerbase. It might have slowed down but still… You really are out of options?
We use AI in our pipelines which is now rapidly advancing our development and cutting massive cost.
I keep seeing Web3 games getting shutdown and can’t help but can’t help but ask why? How are games like this with thousands of DAU not sustainable? You got incredible AI models out there making game development incredibly efficient and cost effective now. You can cut devs, dramatically cut cost and keep going.
Not just dev cost AI has also made art incredible cost effective to produce.
To me this is just founders not willing to pull themselves up and find solutions to keep going. The moment it gets hard for them and revenue slows down they blame market conditions and shutdown. Lord forbid you sacrifice, find solutions, and keep building.
This is the weak founders getting pushed out so stronger founders with sustainable economies, better games and smarter more scrappy studios can build games in web3.
This just clears the path for web3 games that can push through painful times and keep building.
Today we are sad to announce that Uncharted and Fishing Frenzy will shutdown and cease operations.
Despite our best efforts, we were ultimately unable to prove our thesis on crypto gaming and could not find product-market-business fit. We spent a lot of time in the past year testing multiple directions and audiences, but the results did not give us enough conviction in a viable path forward.
We are deeply thankful for the community and investors who gave us their time and trust, and we are sorry we could not deliver.
Here is what’s happening next:
- Servers will shutdown on June 25th 2am UTC
- USDC packages are no longer available in the game
- FISH token is now spend-only and untradable
- Karma scores are now open sourced for use by other teams and partners: github.com/unchartedgg/karma…
- All USDC from the FISH/USDC LP pool will be redistributed to the community and stakers, based off Karma score (snapshot taken as of 15 Jun)
- All USDC spend since Chapter 3 launch (May 14th) will be refunded (excludes diving)
- All Proof of Distribution rewards will be distributed by Sky Mavis directly to the community, proportional to Karma scores
Once again, we are grateful to everyone who supported us and will be available to answer any questions in our Discord.
We have also put together a FAQ here in the wiki: wiki.fishingfrenzy.co/guides…
Thanks,
JW, Derek and the rest of the Uncharted Team

The Misfit Galaxy marketplace just received a major upgrade.
Players can now earn in-game currency by playing, then use it to buy NFT avatars directly through the marketplace without needing to touch a wallet first.
Powered by @enjin Managed Wallet service, our goal is simple: make Web3 ownership feel seamless, accessible, and built around gameplay.
Pew pew in space. Earn CROWN. Unlock custom avatars.
The marketplace upgrade is live now, and this is only the beginning.
This is insane, even their own employees can't use it if they aren't American 😂
The US government, citing national security authorities, has issued an export control directive to suspend all access to Fable 5 and Mythos 5 by any foreign national, whether inside or outside the United States, including foreign national Anthropic employees.
The net effect of this order is that we must abruptly disable Fable 5 and Mythos 5 for all our customers to ensure compliance.
Access to all other Claude models is not affected.
We apologize for this disruption to our customers. We believe this is a misunderstanding and are working to restore access as soon as possible.

Caught the replay of the last @AxieInfinity Lounge.
Axie has badly needed something to help connect the ecosystem for years, so I'm excited to see how Terrariums will strengthen both the economy and community over the long term.
One important topic that came up near the end was how to reduce the supply of Axies. A suggestion was made to simply ban inactive Axies.
While I understand the appeal of a quick fix that could remove a large portion of the available supply, I think that would be a huge mistake.
Not only would it damage an already fragile investment narrative around Axies, but it would also undermine one of the core benefits of blockchain ownership. Setting a precedent where assets can simply be removed would hurt both @SkyMavisHQ's reputation and confidence in the broader industry.
More importantly, Axie oversupply isn't really the problem.
Inactive Axies aren't draining rewards, competing for resources, or creating economic pressure. Most currently have little utility compared to collectibles, which now capture much of the ecosystem's value.
The solution isn't one magical system that fixes everything overnight. It will require multiple systems that gradually increase demand while reducing supply in a healthy way.
Permadeath modes in AL, crafting systems, upgrading, wagering, and other burn mechanics can all contribute.
One idea I've been thinking about is a premium breeding contract that requires both parent Axies to be burned for a chance to roll a new collectible Axie.
If collectibles remain the most desirable asset class, this creates demand for breeding, revives one of Axie's strongest revenue-generating systems, and steadily reduces the supply of standard Axies. The concept could be expanded even further through additional burning to increase roll probabilities, plus the use of cross-IP collaborations and branded collectible releases.
To me, that's the type of win-win solution worth exploring.
There won't be one perfect answer. The goal should be a series of systems that gradually address the underlying issues without compromising everything that's been built so far ❤️

On June 17th, that vision takes its first real step.
Activate your plots, bring your axies home, and watch your land earn bAXS every hour. The better you optimize your land and axies, the more you earn.
