I will be shutting down the archive, the lite archive, the old builds pages, and probably also the skins translator around June 5 Thanks for the ride, legends ❤️

The new Discord client using less RAM is just part of the story. Clicking around feels instant, I can't go back. Check out the boot time.
We've been early adopters of Rust since 2018 and a lot of our infra, voice tech, and even some of the current client is already Rust, the holy grail was getting the whole client there. That means Electron goes away, and so does React Native, mobile keeps native UI but shares app code with desktop via Rust. We hope to get it into testing with users soon™. (And it's not Tauri, it's GPUI, so good guess everyone.) Alright, back to staring at the WoW Forever login screen.

For anyone with dyslexia or other writing difficulties I made the tool I asked for here Paste your text, and it fixes the spelling, punctuation, and grammar without changing what you meant. No prompting needed. All you need is a Claude account: claude.ai/artifact/CBv9FZXKT…
Hey @claudeai @ClaudeDevs, I'm dyslexic, and I use Claude every day at work. One thing I've really noticed is that Claude doesn't currently have a native way to quickly correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

A few more things you can do: - Switch to OpenDyslexic and other easy-to-read fonts - Turn up the text size and line spacing - Have your text read aloud - Dictate instead of typing - Choose how much it changes: Natural, Fix only, or Formal - Write in 40 languages

And a few more: - Preview your Markdown as it'll look on Discord, GitHub, Slack, and more - Keep em dashes and other AI-style formatting out of your text - Add names and words to your dictionary so they stay as you wrote them - Go back to your recent texts

I don't think I can overstate how disappointed I am with Discord. They've effectively just shown how little they actually care about users privacy. They're allowing a Discord bot to keep running, a bot that knew all of this was against GDPR and Discord's own developer TOS.

Discord has now proven that they're not a safe place for user privacy. This is just the beginning of how bad it's going to be. Other large bots are gonna care less about actually upholding the rules and just illegally harvest users data to sell, because Discord doesn't care.

I have just been in contact with the hacker, and they have confirmed that all my data (except for my IPs) still exists and has not been deleted, even though I filed a GDPR deletion request. They even still have data linked to an alt account that also filed a GDPR deletion request
We're aware of a security incident involving Double Counter, a third-party bot developer. We've confirmed Discord's systems were not breached. We are preventing new server installs of Double Counter's app while we investigate the incident. We're working closely with Double Counter and will take further actions as appropriate to protect our users.

In all reality, they just spent a month refactoring a whole system so it runs a few seconds faster

This is more limited than the post implies. It only applies to some parts of Discoverable Servers. Private Servers, Community Servers, DMs, group DMs, and private or role-restricted channels in Discoverable Servers are excluded too. Usernames and avatars are not shown next to messages. We made this update because over the years people told us useful info that used to be findable on the web had gotten hard to track down. Admins and members get to decide how their content is shared, or can opt out completely. Starting today, admins can pick which channels take part, or opt out entirely, in Server Settings > Web Presence. If you don’t want your messages shown, turn it off anytime in User Settings > Data & Privacy.

It's sad that Nathan is straight up lying now. I was in the exact same boat. I did not interact with the bot after doing a GDPR deletion request, yet my data was still saved.

And the worst part is, his reasoning to even store the emails to begin with... was to email big servers, which violates Rule 7 ('Protect Discord Users') of Discord's Developer Policy: support-dev.discord.com/hc/e… I find it a bit sad that Discord is just 'working with them.'

Nathan and Double Counter have knowingly broken Discord's TOS and the law for years now. They've been exposed multiple times for shady business like this, yet they're only getting a slap on the wrist. This sets such a bad precedent for other (large) bots.

This is how one of the top staff members in the Double Counter server reacted to the bot being exposed for violating GDPR, using our mutual deceased colleague against us. They're really using a dead person as a "gotcha" over the fact that they were exposed for breaking GDPR.

Double Counter has silently changed its Privacy Policy. What did they change? They changed some of the wording, removed an entire section (Data Retention), and changed most of the wording in another section (Security). Left = before Right = now

Key changes: - AES-128 → AES-256 - Removed the Data Retention section (the part about keeping user data for up to 24 months after a deletion request). - The Security section was changed to bullet points, with some context removed.
