Yes, you read that right.
His name is Joe Evermore, his son is Joey “Danger” Evermore.
Yes, Danger is his real middle name 🤣
Joey started the climb at 6 years old and he turned 7 HALFWAY UP THE WALL.
On May 20th, after FIVE DAYS on a 3,000-foot granite face, he reached the summit.
His older brothers, Sam and Sylvan, had both done it at 8, Joey beat them both.
By the way... this was not a stunt thrown together over a weekend, it was a rope ascent with a full support team.
Joe says his son was anchored to the wall the entire way, and that he managed the risks with a team, preparation, and training.
In his dad’s words: “In a way he’s the least afraid that we’ve ever seen.”
After the story went global, the comments turned ugly.
Joe says people told him his kids would be better off in FOSTER CARE... and then came the CPS reports.
Not one. MULTIPLE.
Joe says the family then got a LETTER from Child Protective Services.
CPS had reviewed the complaints... and DECLINED to pursue them (the right move)
Joe’s words: “they just don’t understand what’s dangerous and what’s not dangerous.”
So true... people let their kids have live access to anything and everything on the internet, but as soon as they see a brave kid doing something OUTSIDE, people lose their minds.
Childhood is being slowly destroyed by people who don't know what danger really is.

My husband, @mattvanswol has been locked out of his X account for refusing to delete a post he made this morning.
X locked his account for “abuse and harassment” which of course, he did not do.
In fact, he did the EXACT OPPOSITE and stated how horrible the video was and how awful it was to watch.
How can we “be the news” if we cannot post the news without being forced to delete it?
This is wrong.
People should be allowed to see the content Matt posts, regardless of whether it is hard to watch or not.
Personally, I often find it really difficult to watch some of the content Matt posts because it is so horrible.
And that’s exactly the point.
People need to KNOW things like this are happening… because without people like Matt, so many stories would not be national news and catalysts for change.

Over the last couple of months, we've been dealing with a health concern with one of my children that almost crippled me with anxiety at times (we believe we have answers and that the condition will be resolved with medication). I found that all of the theological answers that I could list off about trials and suffering from God's Word were far more difficult to put into practice than I ever would have imagined in those weeks of uncertainty. It's easy to know the right Bible answers, but so much more challenging to live them out.
@megbasham's honesty in this interview with @realAlexClark on Culture Apothecary about wrestling with the difficulty of dealing with a cancer diagnosis and trusting God with her future was both convicting and encouraging to me. Alex's questions were really thoughtful, and Megan's answers faithfully pointed to the reason for the hope that is within her even in the midst of such a tremendous trial. I've already passed it on to friends from college who are currently at MD Anderson to get advanced guidance on cancer treatment.
God won't allow Megan's suffering to go to waste. This interview will be a blessing to many, and I highly recommend it.
Alex: "You've said that a hymn about God's providence is what finally kind of broke this obsession for you. What happened when you heard it?"
Megan: "...the words of the hymn are, even though I'm drinking this cup, what God ordains is always good, and He's going to bring me through this. And even if I I drink this cup of disease, of death, you're still good, Lord, and you are still ordaining good for me.
And that was difficult to hear. It was convictional to hear, but it was also something to cling on to because I think I really was telling myself, God is only good if I'm healed. And I had to come to terms with, you might not be, and God is still good. Not in a general sense, but to you, God is still good. So, you know, that was something that I very much clung to when I heard that hymn and I listen to it regularly now since."

Charlie once said we should be building two statues for every statue that they tear down. His instinct was always to build, not to destroy.
They thought a bullet would silence my husband’s voice but it only made it louder. They think spray paint can obscure his legacy, but it will only spread it further. Every attempt to tear down what Charlie built makes us root deeper and work even harder.
And if you think crossing out the name of Jesus Christ will silence Christians, history has already proved you wrong. We know what it costs to stand firm for Christ and we will stand anyway. God will not be mocked.
We’ll put His name right back where it belongs, clean up the mess, restore Charlie's statue, and keep building.
We will never give up and never surrender.
We will restore the statue and replace the signs, but we are also reviewing the footage of the incident and are working with law enforcement to identify who did this and hold them accountable.
But vandalism like this is not funny, it’s diabolical. The incident happened in the middle of the night because evil never sleeps. Beyond spray painting on the neck and face, they made the intentional decision to cross out the name of Jesus on a nearby sign.
