A lot of games were canceled this weekend due to the weather. That's a bummer.
But when even more games are canceled next weekend, it will be a problem of our own making.
Why? Because the Sherrill Administration is forcing referees to give up their independent contractor status and become W-2 employees, against their will.
NJ's 24th Legislative District has opposed this from the start. We strongly urge Governor Sherrill to withdraw or at least delay the October 1 implementation of this rule.
Employee misclassification is a real thing and the tools are there to prevent it. Leave the legitimate side gigs alone. Let the kids play. 🏈⚽📣

A task force will allow us take an honest, accurate look at how independent contractors work in each industry, and ensure the classification standard is flexible enough to make carve outs unnecessary. If a test is so rigid it requires exemptions, you need to fix the test.
