I wonder who was Mirror editor for much of this period @piersmorgan?
When Paul Gascoigne started seeing private conversations and details of his life appearing in the newspapers, he became convinced somebody close to him was selling stories about him. The problem was that some of the things being printed had only been discussed on the phone with people he trusted. Gascoigne knew something was wrong. But nobody believed him. “I knew my phone was getting hacked. I knew 110%.” The more Gascoigne tried to explain what he thought was happening, the more paranoid he appeared. Even his therapist told him that was what it was. Gascoigne was adamant. “There’s f*** all wrong with me. I know I’m getting hacked.” He remembered having six phones at once and still using the public phone box outside because he no longer trusted any of them. He even flew to Spain simply to buy another phone in the hope nobody would know the number. Stories continued appearing. Gascoigne started looking at the people closest to him. “The only people I spoke to were my mum and dad, and it kept coming out in the newspapers.” So he decided it must be them. “I was thinking, ‘Mum and dad, what the f*** are you doing?’” “Why are you speaking to the papers?” He stopped speaking to them. At different points he also suspected friends and other members of his family, because he could not understand how journalists seemed to know conversations that had taken place in private. Gascoigne later said the fallout with his parents lasted for months. “That destroyed us.” He spent tens of thousands of pounds in surveillance shops buying equipment designed to find hidden cameras and listening devices. When he went into treatment, he struggled to speak openly in group sessions because he feared other patients might be passing information to journalists. For two years, he stopped speaking to some members of his own family because he believed they were betraying him. Gascoigne said Saturday nights became particularly bad because he would sit wondering what might appear in the Sunday papers. “I couldn’t wait for that to end.” For years, Gascoigne had been told that what he believed was happening to his phone was part of his paranoia. Eventually, the truth started coming out. Mirror Group Newspapers later admitted that 18 articles about Gascoigne had resulted from illegal activity, and the High Court heard that his phone had been targeted over a period stretching from 2000 to 2010. In 2015, Gascoigne finally went to court. He had waited years for the chance to sit opposite the people he believed had helped turn his life into something he could no longer trust. He told the court that he had been too frightened to speak freely to his parents, his children or almost anyone else. “It was just horrendous.” Then the lawyers representing Mirror Group Newspapers announced that they were not going to cross-examine him. Gascoigne could barely believe it. “I’ve waited 15 years to be sat here.” “I’m disgusted really. Fifteen years.” Gascoigne had spent years changing phones, buying surveillance equipment, accusing his own family and being told that what he believed was happening was in his head. Before leaving the witness box, he asked to say one final thing. “I’d like to trade my mobile in for a coffin because these guys have ruined my life.” Two months later, the judgment came. The court ruled that phone hacking at the Mirror titles had been “widespread and frequent” and awarded Gascoigne £188,250 in damages. For years, people around him had treated his fears as paranoia. But the court found that Mirror Group Newspapers had been hacking his phone. Gascoigne had been right about it all along. #football

While Piers Morgan is on his high horse about errors in memoirs - his own featured tea with Blair at No.10 a month before he was PM and him telling a joke about a George W Bush speech before he even made the speech!

😂 A wrong date is one thing, but describing a meeting with Tony Blair as happening when John Major was PM? That’s a rather bigger bloody detail to get wrong. If the book is about his own life, people are entitled to question the accuracy. 👀

Piers Morgan: How DARE Earl Spencer get a date wrong, I’m suing. Also Piers Morgan, in his own book: Had tea with Tony Blair at No.10… in March 1997. Blair wasn’t even PM. The man hadn’t moved in yet. GB News just uppercut their own boy. Shameless doesn’t cover it. Piss Moron is a shameless man!

Piers Morgan has just been caught being a hypocrite again. 😩 After making a fuss about Charles Spencer making a minor date error, it turns out that in his own book, Piers describes in great detail having tea with Tony and Cherie Blair at No. 10 Downing Street in March 1997. Only problem is, Tony Blair didn’t become Prime Minister until 2 May 1997. So Piers couldn’t have been having tea with Blair at No. 10 as he claimed. Seems Piers makes errors with dates too. Awkward. 🤭

‘Unresolved traffic incident’ is clipping someone with your car not deliberately pushing someone underneath a bus!
This is a hugely tragic story – Nicholas Brandram was a distinguished Scots Guards veteran turned highly successful financier, but his life appears to have been undone by an unresolved traffic incident lasting seconds. Reads like a Dostoevsky plot. RIP. lbc.co.uk/article/putney-pus…

Sure, politics often requires diplomacy. But @berniemoreno ‘s daughter has accused @MaxMillerOH of domestic violence toward her & their kids. So @adorathejourn asked Moreno if Miller should run for another term: “I don’t know.” Really? I don’t know? notus.org/ohio/bernie-moreno…

Red cards are not overturned by political phone calls. They are overturned by rules, evidence and independent bodies. If a U.S. President intervenes with the FIFA President — and a player is suddenly cleared before a World Cup knockout match — the question is unavoidable: Quo vadis, FIFA? Football must never become a playground for political power. #FIFA #WorldCup #GianniInfantino #DonaldTrump

Passenger demands a free transfer on a London bus, drops insults, and threatens to make the driver "go viral" when told no. The driver? Spot-on professional. He stayed completely calm, stood his ground on TfL policy, and prioritized safety while dealing with pure entitlement. Massive respect to this man.

This really upset me. What if this was your nan or relative?! An elderly woman was trying to get up the stairs and this arrogant POS stood in her way and wouldn’t move! How hard would it have been for him to move? 😡 Nasty little prick.

Please be careful sharing the names PC Christi Hill & Tristan Parsons in the Henry Nowak case. They were not the officers involved — Hill had already left the force in 2024, and the video/photo is from a 2021 bravery awards event. The real officers are under IOPC investigation ……..
PC Christi Hill and Tristan Parsons. A video Hants police deleted and don't want it out there.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
PC Christi Hill and PC Tristan Parsons were not involved in the Henry Nowak case; the video shows them at 2021 bravery awards for an unrelated burglary arrest. Hill left the force in 2024. portsmouth.co.uk/news/crime/ex-… polfed.org/hants/news/202…

An important post to share please - it concerns an ex-police officer (PC Christi Hill) who has been incorrectly named all over social media as one of the officers involved in the Henry Nowak case.
