🌾 On the #InternationalDayofRuralWomen, how can we expand women farmers’ access to finance and strengthen climate resilience? In India, women make up about a third of the agricultural labor force but own only 11% of farmland and receive just 5% of agricultural credit. With support from @climatefinlab and @climatepolicy, an IFPRI and Dvara E-Registry collaboration is developing SCALE, an approach combining credit, insurance, advisory services, and incentives for climate-smart farming: on.cgiar.org/4zzYHw2 @dvaraholdings @CGIAR @IFPRISAO #YearoftheWomanFarmer

In Zambia’s Eastern Province, smallholder farmers face increasingly unpredictable rainfall and climate variability. To better understand decision-making in response to climate information, researchers moved beyond traditional surveys and invited farmers to participate in a simulated farming “game” that explored investment choices, risk & social dynamics. 👉 Here's a quick look at what we learned. 🗞️ Read more: aiccra.cgiar.org/news/games-…

🌾 🌏 In the paddy fields of Odisha, India, many farmers cultivate land they do not own—and without land titles, they cannot use their fields as collateral for formal credit. 🛰️ Against this backdrop, the idea that the collateral requirements could be bypassed using satellite images—allowing financial institutions to assess creditworthiness by verifying what farmers grow instead of what they own—offered a potentially transformative solution. 🔗 Learn more in this recent blog by @BerberKramer and Shalini Roy: on.cgiar.org/3YaboNu @CGIAR @CGIARScaling

What I love about applied research: we get to work with our partners on projects where research has the potential for real impact. And big plans loading for 2026-2028, as @dvaraeregistry has plans to scale the solution to 50,000 farmers in India.

In the first #AES2025 session on agriculture, @BerberKramer of @IFPRI discusses ways to increase the use of agtech. "Visual tools like picture-based weather insurance increase trust and uptake among men and women—making insurance more inclusive and accessible at the same cost."
