When I was a kid I absolutely loved Iain Balshaw. He was my favourite player.
Sent him a Christmas card and he sent one back.
20yo Frenchman Felix Balshaw, son of a member of the 2003 Rugby World Cup winning team for England, defeats world #56 Jaime Faria 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to reach the 2nd round in Lyon.
First tour-level win
First top 100 win
HUGE moment for him.
He's inarguably the best ref ball spinner in England. Averaged about 22 the last 3 years which is crazy.
Test match meta means he's probably not in England's best XI in England. But he clearly is in the subcontinent on a spinning track.

Maybe it's because of his health stuff and 35 is not young. But Englands selection policy of going for traits over production has been mostly shit. Turns out it's hard to be good at international cricket if you're not good at county cricket.
Getting a bit annoyed people think this is because defences are bad. These teams would put 100 on defences from 20 years ago.
People don't like it because it feels wrong and that's the argument. But the rugby on show was entertaining and skilful.
There's a bit of a feedback loop of more scoring because of kicking to the corner and teams can score quickly off their own restarts if they get it right.
More tries aren't inherently a bad thing. They've increased constantly through the years anyway.
Last 20 didn't control the field tilt at all but some of what Saints were doing was just incredible and not a lot you can do.
Defence wasn't perfect but far better than the scoreline suggested. Think there needs to be more aggression in trying to win turnovers
People are gonna see the scores and say "sack the defensive coaches" the defensive setups have actually been fine. The attacks have just been marvellous and there's been some missed tackles forced.
It's entertaining high quality rugby
For some reason my timeline has lots of people hating the decision to go for 2 down 8 after a touchdown.
JJ explains why this is a good decision.
Numbers are cool and people don't like it when it changes preconceived wisdom in sport. But the nerds are often right.
Lineout motion is good.
Think 4 man lineouts give you a lot of options do stuff like this. Harder to maul from and the backline is crowded but you'll win ball.
Sometimes lineouts seems too static
Gave up on Ted Lasso because it's now garbage but watched this instead. A show about a woman who makes it to the MLB and it's such a better show about women in sport.
And men in sport for that matter.
It's a bit cheesy at times but way less than I expected.
Even without the gender aspects the stuff about how vulnerable these millionaires who get to play a children's game are is good stuff.
And they don't shy away from biology and make her a superhero. She's got a slow fast ball and is just a rotational pitcher
Bash has talent but he obviously shouldn't have a central contract over someone else.
I guess the issue is he risks falling out of the county game without one.
Averaging 47 in div 2 isn't gonna cut it.
Shoaib Bashir has only played two Tests in the last year but is set to retain his England contract. ECB to confirm central contracts for 26-27 next week

Over active owners can be an issue, but CIG hasn't seemed to be overly involved in making mad decisions.
This is just a woman on the sidelines learning the game from what we've seen and heard which probably isn't a bad thing long term
Thoughts on Colts Owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon approaching the coaching staff in the middle of the game asking questions?
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The video shows Carlie Irsay-Gordon on the Colts sideline before the game, not in the middle of it as described. Her sideline presence with headset and notes is a long-standing practice to observe and learn operations without directing coaches.

This will be the start of Canada finally being a cricket nation again
Although the Canada Super 60 did look like a joke
This reminds me of a Bath game where we lost to Leeds I think. And at half time people played ultimate frisbee on the pitch.
I remember hearing a man say "the frisbee was way better than the rugby"
It was sick to be fair
This try is basically a fuck you to the idea you have to earn the right to go wide. Each phase almost went across the whole pitch coast to coast. And it's effective.
TRY!
