Bade Ali Jabir immigrated to St. Louis with hopes of a safer home for his four kids. Instead, he was killed by police in his own apartment. This is his story for the @RiverfrontTimes.

A look at how Helene impacted the rural town of Slater-Marietta, just a few miles from the NC border in Greenville County. Great reporting from @BenjaminSimon05 postandcourier.com/hurricane…
Frank Nicolette woke up to three feet of water in his bedroom after Helene.
He soon learned that his longtime roadside store on Route 276 with handmade wooden carvings had been flooded.
Now, he's trying to dig his way out. @postandcourier

Honored to be recognized for this story –– a story that still sticks deeply with me today. Thank you @sarahfenske for the editing and support. And thank you to @AltWeeklies for the award. St. Louis will miss the kind of space that RFT gave to tell these important stories.
I'm told RFT journalists just won 1st place for Best Feature Story and Best Cover design by @AltWeeklies, and boy is that bittersweet. The winning feature, by @BenjaminSimon05, details how a Sudanese refugee was killed by St. Louis Police riverfronttimes.com/news/bad…
Ronnie Elliott started playing old-school jazz on Greenville street corners at nine years old with a guitar that looked bigger than himself.
Now 14, he's become a mini sensation in the jazz world for his viral videos.
My piece for the @postandcourier.

One week until SC's June 11 primary, which @ConorJHughes reports will be a test of the Greenville County GOP's influence — a group that has splintered and fought in recent years to now be controlled by America First hardliners.
Here's the story:

Reading @DoyleMurphy @rftmusic @D_Towski @sarahfenske and so many more in the RFT is a big reason why I became a journalist. To say this alt-weekly will be missed is an understatement. 🧵of a few bangers:
