'Digger' Review: When does excess become an aesthetic choice, and when does it mask its own limitations? Iñárritu takes that question to the extreme.

Everything you’d expect from a Mike Leigh film is in Tender Loving Care, possibly his last. A heartfelt tribute to quiet heroes who strive to make the world better despite their own struggles. A fantastic conclusion to a legendary career #NYFF64

DIGGER is Alejandro González Iñárritu’s latest cinematic spectacle, starring Tom Cruise as a disgraced oil tycoon attempting to save the world from the catastrophe he caused. A grotesque, politically charged black comedy, the film features a wildly eccentric performance from Cruise and the chaotic energy of Birdman. Its ambitious vision and biting satire make for a fascinating yet exhausting experience that is bound to divide audiences.

MAKING MARIE ANTOINETTE is a beautiful and moving film. Eleanor Coppola offers an intimate and honest behind-the-scenes look at the film, reflecting on both her role as a mother and as an artist. You can feel the love and admiration they have for each other throughout. Sofia Coppola’s role in bringing this documentary to completion makes it even more special. Perfect for fans of the movie #NYFF64

LA GRADIVA is easily the surprise of the year and one of the best cinematic experiences of the year. It follows a group of recent graduates on a beautiful Italian summer trip and finds a connection between youth and the ruins of Pompeii. It’s exciting and deeply tragic #NYFF64

Possible Love is another great drama from Lee Chang-dong. It’s a really sharp look at how mass layoffs affected Korea’s middle class. The final stretch is one of the best endings I’ve seen all year. Lee Chang-dong deserves all the recognition this awards season #NYFF64

Andrew Haigh revisits some of his recurring themes in A Long Winter. The beautiful landscapes and strong performances from the cast really stand out, but overall, it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity #NYFF64
