Has Nandy actually done anything for the creative industries besides appeasing those who are the reason they are so broken?
Replying to @DEADLINE
Paramount‘s $111 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery has been given the green light by UK authorities. Lisa Nandy, the British culture secretary, has said she will not intervene in the industry-reshaping merger, despite previously saying she was “minded” to examine the deal in more detail. The Competition and Markets Authority has also cleared the deal, meaning it will not move to a deeper investigation deadline.com/2026/08/paramou…

I don't think anyone who chooses a creative career because it's easy or is naive enough to think it will be. But there's a difference between recognising that and working in a sector that is broken. By far, the biggest contributor is a refusal to accept that problems exist.

Solutions to so many of the problems the sector faces, from theatre to music to cinema to museums to creative education, do exist. But above all, they require acceptance that some things have to change, and that broken hierarchies and systems are the problem.

Creatives deserve better, and the creative sector is absolutely capable of better. No more losing talent and stories to artificial gatekeeping and a lack of accountability. No more accepting that broken is just how things are. Change.
