Calling all friends and film challenge participants in the NY area! Check out Mark Povinelli, a little person and an EDFC judge who is starring in the award-winning production of The Return of Benjamin Lay @BenLayPlay at the Sheen Center starting tomorrow March 14!
ABOUT THE SHOW:
Benjamin Lay was a shepherd, sailor, revolutionary, and the British Empire’s first revolutionary abolitionist. He also was a Little Person, standing at four feet tall. In our piece, we meet Ben Lay in present day. He returns from the grave almost 300 years after his death, as feisty and unpredictable as ever. Our “David” confronts the “Goliath” of slavery as he demands once again to be readmitted into the Quaker community that disowned him for ideas considered dangerous and disruptive.

It was stunning. The clever device of being both the audience and a Quaker meeting. His impassioned pleading for acceptance, @markpovinelli’s powerful performance and the spare scenery. Just a fabulous piece of theatre by all concerned. Bravo!
