Arizona head coach Brent Brennan bought 1,000 tickets for local nonprofits and charities and youth football organizations to attend the Iowa State game. After the game, Brennan walked into Dirtbag's and bought around 300 shots (a $2,000 tab) for Arizona fans and then walked out. Amazing stuff. Man of the people.

Attending a college football game for the third Saturday in a row. What is this, 2019? #GoCats

College football fans have been suffering through change fatigue w/ conference expansion, transfer portal, NIL, rev share, etc. for 5+ years now. How does the sport’s leaders respond? More change that very few want! SMH
My colleague @mark_cooperjr conducted a survey of @TheAthletic readers about the 24-team Playoff. 6,318 responded. 90% say they watch CFB every Saturday. Can't imagine how thrilled ESPN is to be spending $345M on something this popular. nytimes.com/athletic/7706222…

In case you need another reason to dislike the 24 team CFP model; this nugget from the article: “Brace yourselves for something. There will be weeknight playoff games. Commissioners have discussed holding first- and second-round games on weeknights as to disperse the inventory”

Headed back to Tucson after an amazing week visiting East Lansing. It was reassuring to see MSU is treating my daughter well.

I would rather go back to the BCS than a 24-team playoff.

I haven’t been to a radio show since it was “Live from Trippers.” A lot of fun at the Pat Fitzgerald Radio Show. And great to reconnect with @DaltonShetler!

The only thing that would have made yesterday perfect day was if the Spartans could have pulled it out in OT. Amazing homecoming weekend in East Lansing.

I think this speaks to a bigger problem with college football today. We’ve created a world where anything short of competing for a national championship is considered failure. It wasn’t that long ago that you could have a great season without winning it all. Beat your rival. Compete for a conference championship. Win 10 or 11 games. Go win the Outback, Citrus, Sugar or Cotton Bowl and head into the offseason feeling pretty damn good about your program. Now an 11-3 season gets dissected based on why you didn’t make the playoff or why your coach “can’t win the big one.” That’s what we’ve lost. The national championship used to be the ultimate goal, but it wasn’t the only thing that gave a season meaning. And the irony is we’ve sacrificed so much of what made college football unique for an expanded playoff system that still won’t eliminate arguments about who belongs. We’ll just argue about team No. 24 instead of team No. 4. Conference championships should matter. Rivalries should matter. Bowl games should matter. A really good season should be allowed to simply be a really good season.

Modern CFB with the transfer portal and NIL have made Group of 6 programs a farm system for the P4. Hate to see this.
Teams outside the power leagues are 3-73 against power-conference teams and Notre Dame this season, outscored 1,094-3,070. That 3.9% win rate is the lowest at this point of a season since at least 1996. The previous low was 11.5%, in 2005 (10-77). FBS vs. FBS games through Oct. 4. Via @ironfbstats

How cool is this? My daughter getting to have her own @ThisistheIZZONE experience 30 years after I had mine. @michiganstateu is so blessed to have Tom Izzo there all these years.
