Parents: A new social media “challenge” involves tampering with Chromebook batteries—and it’s already led to fire incidents.
Talk to your teen. This is more than a bad idea—it’s a serious fire hazard.

With the upcoming long weekend, we want to take a minute and remind everyone about being safe when having campfires and setting off fireworks.
Fire & Emergency Services | Make sure you are practicing fire safety this weekend when it comes to fireworks and campfires. Here's what you need to know: 👇
🎆Fireworks
Victoria Day is one of the only times of year when consumer fireworks are allowed to be set off. Fireworks are prohibited between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Ensure you have lots of open space and be mindful of where debris may land. Keep a water hose or pail of water nearby at all times. Do not set off fireworks in windy conditions.
🔥Campfires
To have a campfire, you must obtain a burn permit. You can only have a campfire between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. Never leave a fire unattended. Keep a water hose or pail of water nearby at all times and ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving. Learn more and obtain a permit at Belleville.ca/BurnPermits
Have a safe and happy long weekend!

This past week, firefighters from Station 3 and 4 used their training night to train on portable pumps and setting up water sources where we do not have hydrants. Firefighting in a rural setting can look quite different than firefighting in an urban setting.

Fire & Emergency Services | Check your smoke alarms this weekend! 🚨⏰
The clocks spring forward early Sunday morning, which is a good reminder to test all of your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms to ensure they are properly working and replace the batteries if needed. 🪫
These alarms give you the crucial time needed to evacuate in the event of an emergency. Every second counts!
