Velocity. Exit velo. TrackMan. Transfers. Weight-room numbers. Practice clips.
Every. Single. Day.
They are WINNING the fall on Twitter.
Then February comes around…
And the posting gets a little quieter.
There’s nothing wrong with promoting your players or showing development.
But recruits should understand something:
Winning social media in October and winning baseball games in April are two very different things.
Don’t evaluate a program based on how impressive its fall content looks.
Check the spring results.
3 / The Established Program Coach
Then there’s the coach who barely talks about himself.
They’re active year-round, but selectively.
Their posts look different:
Camp registration.
Alumni weekend.
A former player getting drafted.
A former player getting married.
An alum getting his first job.
A picture with players who graduated 10 years ago.
Congratulations to someone playing professionally.
That’s about it.
And when you find this type of account, PAY ATTENTION.
Because the program isn’t constantly trying to convince you how good it is.
The history of the program is doing the talking.
These coaches often have something the other accounts are still trying to build:
Continuity.
Alumni relationships.
Program identity.
And an established track record.
The recruiting lesson:
Don’t just look at WHAT a college baseball program posts.
Look at WHEN they post.
Look at HOW OFTEN they post.
And most importantly, look at what they choose to celebrate.
Is the account constantly selling you on how good the program is?
Or is it showing you 10, 15 and 20 years of players who are still connected to it?
Social media should never make your recruiting decision for you.
But if you know what you’re looking for, it can give you clues about the program behind the account.
Recruit the program just as much as the program is recruiting you.
