American journalist Michael Shellenberger is doing a far better job of holding the Australian government to account than any of our local media. These are the questions Australian journalists should be asking. Thank you for your great work, Michael!
Well, that was wild. I'm at the Australian Parliament and just left a meeting with two staffers for the governing party. They told us that the government needed more power to censor things like the upcoming US execution of Nidal Hasan. When I asked why they needed to censor that video, one said it was to prevent copycat killings. Copycat killings by governments? I asked. Er, no, they said. Copycat killings like of a backpacker, several decades ago. So, under that logic, I pointed out, the government should censor things like last year's Bondi massacre, where two Muslims killed 15 people, no? Well, that was news, they said. Didn't they realize their bill would allow the government to censor news? They didn't seem to know, or care. They also admitted that they did not know that the bill would allow the government to create and operate an unlimited number of fake social media accounts to attack its political enemies and spread disinformation. Having presented them with information they had never heard about a bill they had clearly not read, they emphasized to us, strenuously, that they were moving forward with the bill. So there you have it. The government wants the power to arbitrarily censor scenes of violent crime, or violence, for any reason. And it wants the power to use an unlimited number of fake accounts to wage offensive disinformational warfare against the Australian people. Given that the Bondi massacre last year increased public opposition to mass migration, and support for the populist One Nation Party, it seems obvious that the government wants to censor such events in order to protect its political power. It's quite telling how obediently governing party members insist such a law is needed without even knowing what's in it.

Funny thing-when Optus or other companies were hacked, rather than go after the hackers, the Gov blamed the companies & sought to hold them to account. Now they're seeking to hold the AI company to account rather than admit blame on the part of lax security of their Medicare site

Security of government systems is so fundamental to their existence and function that when a system is hacked the government is by far more culpable than the hacker. The headline should read: Shockingly weak government online security easily hacked by AI agent.

Academics are now confirming one of the major holes in the new CGT rules. Diversified investors can face effective tax rates of 55% to 80% because inflationary losses aren’t treated the same way as inflationary gains. @Johnkehoe23 has been all over this, another great read afr.com/policy/economy/serio…

So... we're offering tax concessions to offshore companies to make Australian electricity more expensive? And if we don't, investment will flow to other countries. Yet somehow this risk doesn't apply to Australian's who are considering starting a business? As Forrest Gump's momma used to say: Stupid is as stupid does.

🟠 #BREAKING: LABOR IS QUIETLY PAYING JOURNALIST WAGES AT 184 NEWSROOMS 🟠 Anika Wells' $67.6 million Journalism Assistance Fund is part paying the wages of more than 2,000 journalists, and more than half the money went to just four ownership groups. Nine took $16.1 million. Seven's side of the new Southern Cross group took $11.3 million. Crikey, The Conversation, The Saturday Paper and Mamamia are all there. News Corp, Sky News and The Guardian were barred from even applying. Opinion writing doesn't count as news under the government's own rules. And no funded newsroom ever has to tell its readers. The fund ran dry in 28 days. One recipient was two days old. Another collapsed five weeks later. We've published the full table: all 184 recipients, every company, every owner, every dollar and their share of the fund: onenewsaustralia.com/journal…

*** COPIED *** Labor is now being invited to do what every older Australian was told would never happen: drag the family home into the pension means test. The proposal being pushed would exclude only the first $500,000 of owner-occupied home equity, then count the value above that against the Age Pension. In plain English, the home older Australians worked their whole lives to pay off would no longer be treated as protected. It would become a balance-sheet asset for Canberra to measure, taper and punish. That is a direct attack on the Australian retirement bargain. Work hard, pay tax, buy a modest home, maintain it for decades, then reach retirement and be told you are too “wealthy” for the full pension because land values exploded around you through no fault of your own. In Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and even ordinary regional towns, $500,000 is not luxury. It is not harbourfront wealth. It is not some millionaire loophole. It is the new floor created by years of inflation, population pressure, planning failure and government policy that blew up house prices while wages were left behind. The family home should be off limits. Once Canberra starts counting the roof over your head as pension wealth, the next step is obvious: smaller pension, forced debt, reverse mortgage pressure, estate recovery and older Australians pushed to borrow against the home they already paid for. Jim Chalmers and Anthony Albanese need to rule this out completely, not hide behind “modelling,” “fairness” and “intergenerational equity.” Pensioners are not the enemy. Older Australians with a backyard are not a budget problem. They are people who paid into this country for decades and deserve security, not another Labor raid dressed up as reform. Labor already taxes your income, your fuel, your super, your savings, your investments and your death through every indirect charge it can find. Now the political class is eyeing the family home because it cannot control its own spending. Hands off the home.

Strong work highlighting this @KarlStefanovic. Good luck with your new career Karl. The new CGT discount on Australian businesses is pushing effective rates on equities into the 33-47% range for many investors, the highest in the developed world. Treasury modelling deserves scrutiny, unfortunately the bigger issue is the signals it sends. Australia is becoming less competitive for aspiration, ambition, startups, and capital. We need smarter, revenue-neutral reform that rewards productive investment not punishes it. Worth watching the full pod 👇
My view is Karl Stefanovic is a genius. Watch his podcast where he exposes the largest lie in Australia: we now have the highest CGT in the world! And Treasury/ Chalmers are lying about it! Fearless journalism at its finest. xitter.cf/DerekFranc90653/status…

Bro took the red pill and I am here for it. Meet Karl Stefanovic. Three decades on Australian TV, including nearly 20 years co-hosting Nine’s flagship breakfast show Today (as mainstream media as it gets). He started unplugging from The Matrix during the SCAMDEMIC. In 2023 he told viewers on air he was “done” with the vaccine after the push for a fifth booster. He later went further, openly admitting he “got it wrong” on the jab rollout and expressed regret for his own and the media’s role in the saga. He recently launched The Karl Stefanovic Show podcast as an independent project, made it clear he wouldn’t be renewing his TV contract with Nine (Today show) when it expires at the end of the year, and finally began speaking his mind. His guests so far have included “Orange Woman Bad” aka Pauline Hanson, the common sense leader of One Nation (political party) who for decades has been FALSELY attacked and smeared by the media, just like the US media machine did to Trump for his common sense policies and courage. Another guest on Karl’s new podcast was Pete Evans, to whom Karl publicly apologized for helping smear during the scamdemic. Then came the latest episode: a candid, hour-long chat with Tommy Robinson. It dropped overnight, was scrubbed from YouTube, Spotify, Apple and Instagram the next morning (not even 24 hours later) then Pauline Hanson (aka “Orange Woman Bad”) instantly re-uploaded the full thing on her channel under the title “CANCELLED.” Karl’s TV bosses at Nine allegedly called crisis meetings and reportedly reviewed (possibly ending) Karl’s future at the network. Yes, Karl had a conversation on his new podcast and the mainstream media machine got its panties in SUCH A TWIST that they held a crisis meeting and rumors are now swirling that he has been fired... ...for having a conversation. ...with a guest. ...on his podcast. Ironically, for a guy pivoting to full-time independent content creation, who is finally speaking his mind without fear, it’s the perfect outcome. Massive free publicity, instant proof he’s no longer playing by the old rules and has woken up, and a crystal-clear signal to his audience that he’s all-in on unfiltered conversations. Did Karl Stefanovic just get the ultimate send-off gift from the corrupt media machine as he begins life as an independent content creator? Karl’s unplugging from The Matrix is almost complete. Bro took the red pill and I am here for it. 🍿

> Comes to office claiming it’s a supply only problem > Imports a million people during a housing shortage > Fails to deliver new supply to meet growing demand > Housing becomes even less available and affordable > Blames tax settings in place for over 2 decades > Raises capital gains tax on all types of investment > Claims this is all about fairness for young people
Home ownership isn’t just about housing. It’s about what kind of country we want Australia to be.
