I would like to add a few things as a BD guy,
The creators who just provide the visibility aren’t bad, if the project needs visibility/noise on the timeline before they rollout their own campaign which converts, then it’s good to hire these creators are they are the ones who are large in number and can make noise
In this case, the brand should not expect conversions from the creators
Second case- brand wants conversions
In this case, especially in web3 gaming, there are only a very few creators who actually convert, and MOSTLY they are the ones who have a guild or they are influential without a guild as well.
I agree with you that the creators should have integrity but considering the current state of web3 gaming, creators who are full time in web3 gaming might be struggling with sponsorships as game studios don’t have that much liquidity right now
In this case when the creators are in need for money, they undermine themselves and accept deals which might be not good for their audience.
Now identifying which creators are KOLs and which creators are CREATORS, that’s up to the brand’s KOL BD
We at metaspace wanted visibility on the timeline first and our customer acquisition channel was always esports from the start because i knew there are very few gamers left in web3 and if we try to acquire them through social visibility and campaigns, the CAC would be very high.

Hot take: Most Web3 gaming creators lack integrity.
They settle for the smallest payday possible, then act surprised when the industry continues to undervalue them.
Web3 gaming is global.
Your value should not be priced against the average income of the country you live in.
It should be priced against the value you can actually bring to a project & that is where the real problem starts.
I've noticed a lot of creators are not honest about what they can deliver.
They sell projects on inflated reach, fake influence, recycled audiences, vanity engagement and "community” numbers that do not actually convert into players, users or buyers.
Then the usual cycle starts: A campaign ends, creators get paid, the project gains nothing.
This is not marketing.
It is short-term extraction dressed up as creator partnerships.
There is nothing wrong with saying:
“I can bring awareness, but I cannot promise conversions.”
There is nothing wrong with saying:
“My audience is not the right fit for this game.”
There is nothing wrong with saying no to a deal if you know you cannot deliver value.
That is integrity.
But taking money while knowingly selling false expectations is exactly why so many projects lose trust in creators.
And it is also why serious creators get grouped in with the wrong people.
Web3 gaming does not need more creators chasing tiny one-off paydays.
It needs creators who understand their value, protect their reputation and are honest about what they can actually provide.
Because until that changes, the Web3 gaming creator economy will keep being a race to the bottom.
