[DOUBLE KETTLEBELL PRESS TIP] "When the bells’ handles are clearing the top of your head—and not sooner—shoot your eyes up without tilting your head. This will make your triceps stronger for the sticking point. As you are completing the lockout quickly lower your gaze again. This will make it easier to bring the bells back behind your ears." — Pavel, in: Return of the Kettlebell: Explosive Kettlebell Training for Explosive Muscle Gains, 2009. #kettlebell #press #kettlebellpress #doublekettlebellpress #militarypress #strength #strengthtraining #strong #strongfirst #bestrongfirst

A sedentary lifestyle makes sugar especially dangerous for your heart Excess glucose lingering in your blood forms harmful Advanced Glycation End Products (AGEs) that stiffen heart and vascular tissues, dramatically raising heart disease risk Regular exercise counters this threat, efficiently shuttling glucose into your muscles and safeguarding your cardiovascular health Physical activity is, indeed, medicine

Power Swing Benefits & Secret Tip⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Notice a very subtle—but very important—detail (sound on is needed) for a safe Dead Stop/Power Swing performance. It also applies to the very first swing of your regular swings.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Gery wrote on IG in the comments right away: “I hear a bracing breath prior to hiking the bell.”⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Correct! People very often breathe in during the very first hike pass, but this is actually the only position where the kettlebell and the body are both forward—meaning much more strain on your back than during regular swings (where the body is upright and the kettlebell is backward, or vice versa).⁣ ⁣ Hence: breathe in → brace → hike pass → swing!⁣ ⁣⁣ Benefits: ⁣⁣ “It’s equally fantastic as a corrective drill, a teaching tool for a great kettlebell swing start, a method to develop max power for each rep of a swing, and an evil training technique.“⁣⁣ “…it is unforgiving of form faults and quickly highlights opportunities to plug power leakages.“⁣⁣ “The dead stop swing takes each rep from a complete stop with no requirement to reduce the eccentric forces and then reverse them. Each rep is fresh and requires at least the same amount of power as the last to move the bell at the same speed to the same height. The two-hand version is the exercise of choice.“⁣⁣ —Mark Reifkind @markrif1, StrongFirst Master Certified Instructor⁣ Emeritus ⁣ “I like the powerlifting mentality of making the first rep perfect and the constant drilling of properly picking up the bell, setting it down, and reloading the hips.⁣⁣ I would still mix this drill with sets of higher reps when teaching for fluidity. This variation has got to be very tough because the kinetic energy has dissipated (at least 35% more energy required, according to Supertraining), so I anticipate effective specialized variety workouts for any level of practitioner.“⁣⁣ —Pavel Tsatsouline, Founder of StrongFirst @BeStrongFirst, Chairman, & CEO⁣⁣ #kettlebell #kettlebellswing #deadswing #deadstopswing #powerswing #rifswing #powerlifting #markreifkind #paveltsatsouline #pavelmacek #strongfirst #bestrongfirst

Exercise is an antidepressant. A new meta-analysis of 26 randomized controlled studies found that both aerobic and resistance training significantly reduced symptoms of depression and anxiety, often rivaling standard treatments like medication and therapy. Although both modes were beneficial, aerobic exercise had a slightly greater impact on depression, while resistance training showed a modest edge for anxiety. Many of the included studies didn't even meet the minimum weekly physical activity recommendations for aerobic or resistance exercise, and even then, reduced depressive and anxiety symptoms significantly. For those with depression or anxiety, movement is powerful medicine. And the dose needed might be smaller than you think.

#strongfirstresilient: Kneeling Hip Flexor Stretch with a Kettlebell Overhead Hold a kettlebell overhead (e.g. right foot back, kettlebell in the right hand.). Lift your spine, arm, and the kettlebell up with your hip. “Holding a weight overhead enforces the upright bearing necessary for stretching the hip flexors—which makes for a great drill.” — Pavel, Super-Joints #strongfirst #flexiblesteel #stretching #hipflexorstretch #hipflexibility #bestrongfirst

Strength training is like life insurance. A study found that older adults with more muscle had a 19% lower risk of premature death. Muscle mass, not BMI, was the strongest predictor of longevity. Muscle is the currency of longevity. The stronger you are, the better you age.
