Fifty years ago, Britain was in crisis. The music was good, but the economy was a mess. We were forced to go to the International Monetary Fund for a deeply-damaging bailout. The UK needed a new direction - that's why Margaret Thatcher and Keith Joseph founded the Centre for Policy Studies. A full half century on, our new Director, the economist and journalist @LiamHalligan, is arguing for another policy revolution now: lower taxes, cheaper energy, affordable welfare, an economy that rewards work and enterprise. Britainโ€™s problems are urgent โ€“ย we're on the brink of another bailout. But we changed course fifty years ago - and with the right ideas, we can do so again. The Centre for Policy Studies - where the fightback begins.

This story has broken me. It has unleashed a rage so strong I can barely express it, but allow me to try. Above all, I am angry with the decades-long malevolent incompetence of the British state: politicians of all parties, the judiciary, the civil service. Their collective uselessness has shattered the social contract and made us all poorer and less safe. In just 25 years, they have led us from an affluent, high-trust society to a broken, low-trust one. I am sickened by the growth in sectarian politics. I am appalled by the foreign ghettos in our cities and imported, bent voting practices and resultant corruption in some of our councils. I hate seeing the clothing of female oppression on our streets. I am sickened by the fact our Jewish community lives under siege. I no longer wish to pay tax to support those who have come here illegally and should be removed immediately. It is to our shame that we have accepted mass immigration without insisting on integration. I am tired of being told that a British passport makes a foreigner as British as me. I assure you that the โ€œBritish citizenโ€ in this story is not. I am saddened that for so many people, the concept of โ€œBritishโ€ is essentially meaningless. I am sick of the obsession with a minor war 2,500 miles away that barely affects us. I despise that ยฃ88m of our tax money is going to Hamas (because it will), when the tax burden is a record high, everything is expensive, welfare spending is out of control and we canโ€™t even pay for our own defences when the global risk of conflict is the highest it has been since the end of the Cold War. And in spite of how much of our money the government steals from our pockets, nothing, at all, in this country works. Healthcare, transport, education - all broken. It is a stain on our national politics that we have five Gaza MPs. It is our national shame that our government is intent on sucking up to the Palestinian entity which contains some of the worst monsters on the face of planet. It is a disgrace that our Foreign Secretary shook the hand of the representative of the Iranian regime that has slaughtered tens of thousands of its own people, and that he doesnโ€™t seem to understand why that photograph will damn him forever. It is embarrassing that we had a Foreign Office minister dancing with and hugging the representative of the Palestinian Authority. The lack of serious statesmanship is mind-boggling and indicative of how far we have fallen. They say the past is a foreign country, but my goodness, do I miss the country I grew up in. I feel so sorry for the generation that grew up after 2000 and will never know how good it was. Itโ€™s not coming back. I have no time for the demagogues and grifters who exploit this anger. I know other people feel the same as I do, and my goodness, do I understand why people are angry. For decades, those we have elected to govern in our interests have instead run our country into the ground. And to cap it all, now we are led by fatuous, asinine, deeply unserious airheads who think serious governance is a TikTok video about pork scratchings, as the last vestiges of a coherent society die under the weight of their malignant frivolity. The worst part of it is that there is absolutely nothing any of us can do about it. I just want to live in a happy, stable, prosperous country like we used to be, instead of one that is run by a state apparatus that does nothing but beat us down, obsess over irrelevances, take our money, and leave us poorer and less safe.

What sort of man abandons an injured child to ensure he gets his place on the boat headed to the UK and all that it has to offer him? Iโ€™m not sure I can give a name to such a creature but I know I wouldnโ€™t give him succour or a life here either, thatโ€™s for sure.
A child left behind, injured in the water, while his father gets onto the boat and leaves French lifeguards to save him. What kind of father does that? Crashing waves. Chaos. A child struggling in the water, while his own father boards the boat rather than staying to protect him. I believe scenes like this expose the failures surrounding these crossings, from the charities involved, to the actions of the French authorities, to the decisions being made by the British Government. People are becoming increasingly angry about what they are seeing. I genuinely fear that if confidence in the authorities continues to collapse, some people will eventually try to take matters into their own hands. To be absolutely clear, I am not condoning, encouraging or supporting violence in any way, shape or form. Adrian

This should be on the national news. Why isn't it? There was a time a missing 13 yr old girl's face would be everywhere!! These are the details issued by police, I've linked it at the end of the post too: "Lillia left her home address in Bolton at approximately 20:00 hours on Friday 11th September 2026 and after failing to return home was reported missing by her family. Lillia has been identified on CCTV in the Piccadilly Gardens area of Manchester City Centre and the Trafford Centre on Saturday 12th September 2026. Lillia is a white 13-year-old female with long light brown hair worn in a low ponytail. She wears clear frame glasses. She was last seen wearing dark wide leg trousers, black hooded zip front jacket and carrying a black Nike rucksack". Please share. It takes two seconds to repost and try to get Lillia's face seen. It feels like every day, every hour, we're seeing stories like this about our kids and as a mum it's heartbreaking. What has this country become? If you've seen her or have any information, contact Greater Manchester Police: โ€ข 101 โ€ข Investigation team: 0161 856 3635 โ€ข Major Incident Portal: mipp.police.uk/operation/06Gโ€ฆ โ€ข Or anonymously via Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111 Please help get Lillia home safely. ๐Ÿ™
