I finally added a slide based on the excellent essay danwang.co/how-technology-gr… by @danwwang to define @Azumuta's role in pushing the boundary between explicit instructions & tacit know-how

Will smart rock invent floating rock? 🤔

The statue of Prometheus is finally finished. It was cast in Paris, crossed the Atlantic, and was assembled at Starbase. It took us 100 days to go from nothing to this. People of the West, we have lived through an era devoid of dreams, devoid of destiny. But the time has come to reclaim our dream of antiquity. In a few months, we will start building a new city. It will be the most magnificent city in all of history. After all, the great dream of the West has always been to rebuild Rome. Come walk beside us in this endeavor. The world is waiting.

There is so much one-dimensional p(doom) talk, it's crazy. The discourse around AI is so flat... (except at the @Azumuta lunch table, but that's for another time 😁) The book "What is intelligence" by @blaiseaguera is great, here are some takes from it. (At least, in my reading of it - it might be mixed with some other input) * It's survival of the most fitted all the way down. 🐢 * We tend to anthropomorphize everything, we even say "the bacteria are searching for food" while it's really 'just' chemotaxis * Neural networks exist to make predictions. * (!) It's not obvious where neural nets begin and where they stop. Is a group of people actually one, or many? Is an ant colony one organism? (Stigmergy FTW!) * In one brain there are multiple subnets competing for the signal. Extremely so in octopuses. Descartes was probably wrong. 😅 * I heard people say LLMs are by definition non-deterministic. Not sure where is is coming from... it is absolutely not true. LLMs have fixed weights. Each inference will produce the exact same probability distribution. Randomness comes from hardware noise or needs to be added explicitly by sampling tokens from the distribution. * We often regard two neurons connected if they are physically connected by an axon. Again, not true. All sensory input is actually connecting networks. (Visual, audio, touch, ...) And outputs. (Expression, voice, touch, ...) That means that, in a sense, multiple physically separated networks can actually be one. * Yes, LLMs are 'just calculations', but aren't we 'just calculations' as well? And a paradox to close with... (not from the book, from The Orville, but interesting anyway 🫣) If consciousness is an emergent property from large neural networks. If we force robots to do all our chores, and work in our factories. If the robots are powered by large neural networks. Wouldn't they be slaves? (I don't like the term 'consciousness' because it's completely undefinable, but I guess it's our best attempt at explaining our sense of 'self' and justify our sense of superiority over other species 😅)

We should build new pyramids, 100x the volume!
Autonomous excavator building a wall! 🪨 This will blow your mind! 🤯 Researchers from ETH Zürich and Robotic Systems Lab have used an autonomous excavator to build a 65-meter-long, six-meter-high dry-stone wall. The autonomous system, called "Heap," precisely firstly scanned and then placed stones, forming a wall. Through computer-aided design and control, the robot was able to handle and position over 900 individual elements, some weighing over 1000 kilograms. Can we call it the Great Wall of Switzerland?! 🇨🇭 Here's the page of the project that was on from 2016 to 2025: rsl.ethz.ch/robots-media/hea… ~~  ♻️ Join the weekly robotics newsletter, and never miss any news → ziegler.substack.com

This is cool! I bet they'll add context pruning pretty fast. That would be a serious edge imo.

Cursor can now show your agent's context usage as an interactive report in a canvas. The context explorer breaks down where tokens go across the system prompt, tool definitions, rules, skills, and more.

A 2005 state-designed worm designed to corrupt physics simulations sat undetected on VirusTotal for nearly a decade. Fast16, intercepted executable files at the kernel level and silently rewrote floating-point calculations to make them produce slightly wrong answers. Targets: high-precision engineering suites used for structural analysis, crash simulations, and physical process modeling, including LS-DYNA, a tool cited in reports on Iran's nuclear weapons research. The sabotage vector relied on deployment of the driver across a network via worm, corrupting calculations on every machine, and eliminating the possibility of cross-checking results against a clean system. Stuxnet got the documentary. Fast16 got twenty years of nothing. sentinelone.com/labs/fast16-…
